Ok.. here’s one that I have not only no guess as to what it’s from, but I can’t even think of what to actually Google search to find the answer either lol.
Was looking at that picture of Rikishi as the Sultan in the “Diss Track” thread, and I noticed that he had boots similar to Iron Sheik. With the toe of the boot curling up in to a point. Abdullah had worn some like that before as well.
Was Iron Sheik the first one to do this? Is that why it became sort of a part of Middle Eastern imagery in wrestling? Genuinely curious as it’s such a strange looking feature. I didn’t know if it had roots in some other part of that area’s dress or what.
I don’t know why I’m so curious 😂 I guess because I couldn’t find anything definitely stating why this is a thing.

i'm pretty sure the original sheik wore them before the iron sheik did. they were a thing long before wrestling, they're called poulaines.

Aren't poulaines more medieval Europe, like jester shoes? There are these as well, called opanci, also more Europe and down into Greece and Turkey, but the style may have caught on in the Middle East during the Crusades. I always figured the curly toes/Middle Eastern connection was a cartoonish Aladdin stereotype thing. Like, genies would wear those. If promoters could have given the Iron Sheik a flying carpet, I think they would have.

Ya know, I guess that’s kind of where my mind was going too, because it’s like I can picture in my head that sort of being a stereotypical Middle Eastern/wherever thing but I can’t find anything to really prove it.

Rudolf Valentino wore similar in “the Sheik” and I’d imagine that was the inspiration for the Original Sheik.

I always assumed that the pointy tips of those shoes were either sharp or made of metal so that it would hurt more when you kicked someone

Only thing I have to add is that I'm real disappointed that anyone who wore the curly boot never used it as a means of preventing elimination in a Rumble match, by hooking the foot on the rope as they're going over the top.
Maybe Kofi can start wearing the boots and make this happen.
