I suppose Cody vs Rock next year is better than Rock vs Roman for 40, but I think Cody vs Gunther for the wwe championship and Rock vs Roman in a non title match is the move

Sure it's logical for him to be elevated to world title status after his IC reign and strong booking. But Idk if the crowd is going be into him over other guys come Mania 41 season.

Oh and what about Phil? I was thinking if he doesn't break something else, they are going to give him his main event.

If we're gonna have Rock defending his fake "People's Champ" belt, can we at least get Diamond Dallas Page's opinion on the whole thing?

I'm not mad about this as a program it will make for tv. However I'm mad that this leaked now. This may make everything revolving Cody to be heatless filler until next mania season, even if the matches are good. Makes weekly tv very skippable imo. I mean, that's pretty much what happened last year by having Cody lose at 'Mania, just not with the title.

Meltzer wrote it’s the plan but that Cody still having the belt isn’t a guarantee.

Realized I got your context wrong so editing my post; The issue was more that Cody was doing storylines he’d be doing if he was world champion and Roman was doing stuff he’d be doing if he lost the world title except the outcome made both sides make less sense narratively.

If it were me, I’d have Gunther beat Cody at SummerSlam, Cody wins it at the Rumble after a time to rebuild, Rumble winner challenges whoever the other champ is and Rock faces Cody at ‘Mania.
Best outcome for a lot involved.

I can see him and Seth's program get going in time for Mania, Might not main event but it's sure to be one of the hottest programs going into Mania if that happens. Hell Punk could be world champ by then. So I guess they could main event night 1.

Considering how long people will be out for, that seems like the most logical outcome. I also can’t see them letting Drew leave without blowing that all off.

I would rather them do Roman vs. Rock with absolutely no title involved and have the actual title match involve whoever's hot at the time.

If I was the booker, I'd have Gunther dethrone Cody - have a run w/ it and ' have Cody win it back just before 'Mania to have the megamatch in Rock vs. Cody - it's the match to make for sure.

Im I the only one who doesn't give a flying f*** about Roman vs The Rock? In the 'mania build up, Roman was comprehensively outshone by his cousin and despite being the undisputed champ, felt like the 4th most important dude in the story.

While I agree that the window of opportunity on the match truly being effective has long since closed, the fact is it's the one match they've been building up to for most of the last decade. They're not gonna say "oh well, let's cut our losses on this". It's gonna happen sooner or later.

It would be a really good feud, imo, with Rock as heel and Roman as a face. There’s a lot of layers there. The other way around is not as interesting.

I’m convinced Cody/Rock will happen but not convinced it’ll be at Mania. I still feel Roman/Rock non-title is likelier with Cody-Rock for the title coming before.
I can see Cody/Rock at the Rumble or maybe a long shot but the Raw Netflix debut. Look at the hype the Raw Homecoming to USA got in 2005 or the Smackdown Fox debut in 2019. They’re going to want this Netflix debut to have as many eyes as possible so it wouldn’t shock me if they advertise a match as big as that and/or a Roman return to confront Rock afterwards (if he hasn’t already returned by then).
Roman’s return timeline and Rock’s movie schedule are the unknowns. It’s only May 2024 and fans are already chanting we want Roman every week. He pretty much has to be a face almost immediately after returning, whenever that is. But will he be back for a Summerslam match v Solo? For war games at Survivor Series? Or saved for Rumble/Mania season?

My counter to that idea is that, unlike those, there isn’t any more extra money from advertising to be made from having a big match on a debut. You could argue that they could go on lower tiers but I also can’t really see people wanting to pay for adverts and rather just get what they want live without interruption. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong but there’s also no way Peacock is letting Netflix get Rock/Cody on anything not a PLE in America.
