I think it's important to not consider everyone with family ties to the business as a nepo push. Barry Windham was not a nepo push. Kendall Windham was. The first one is a nepo push. After that it's whether they deserve it. It's not fair on the people who don't get that shot in the first place, but even guys like Randy, The Rock, Mr Perfect started as nepotism but they justified it and became legends of their own.

Seemed like he was a lower card underneath guy for the majority of his career. I guess he was a Tag Champion with his brother during the West Texas Rednecks but they were a good act and he was decent enough in the ring. And by that point he had also finally filled out and actually looked believable unlike in the 80's when he was like 190 pounds soak and wet on a 6'5" frame.

Nia Jax was in no way ready for the push she got right out of the gate in NXT, and she was moved to the main roster way too soon.

Closest other than that was when they turned him heel in 1988, and it looked like he would fill either Tully or Arn's spot in the Horsemen. Then he vanished again.

As funny as telling Harley Race, “Daddy said you have to sell,” is, my favorite George Gulas story was the time he was riding to a show with a carload of guys and they pulled into a rest area to eat bologna sandwiches because it’s all they could afford. George went to a pay phone, called Nick, and exclaimed, “We’re having a picnic, daddy!”
If you’ve ever seen Smoky and the Bandit, I’m convinced that George Gulas and Junior are the same person.

Surprised DSOTR hasn't done anything on him

George Gulas immediately comes to mind Killing an entire territory should win him this thread. "Daddy said sell!"

Dustin Rhodes' initial WCW push Dustin Rhodes anywhere Dusty was booking. I mean Dustin had talent and was probably deserving of a push but not one so strong and obnoxiously forced as that one when Big Dust had the book in 91. He never lost even in a tag match where his partner turned him and he had to wrestle a handicap match and was basically the "Where's Poochie?" of WCW where every heel on the roster would have to call him out in promos. I think how Bill Watts used Dustin used him in 92 was a more accurate representation of him as a talent at that point. Pushed but not overly strong where he would do jobs and wasn't unbeatable and was used mainly used in a tag team with a really good veteran in Windham. Unfortunately the reason Dustin's push was scaled back though was likely because Watts didn't want him getting in the way of pushing his own son who was far worse and less deserving of a push then Dustin was.

Ill just start with Brutus Beefcake. Guy was put in so many main events or marquee matches just because of his relationship to Hogan His initial WCW push, which lasted all of about a month, fair enough. The rest of his time there he was firmly rooted in the midcard, beating jobbers on the B-shows, occasionally winning tag matches on the A-shows, and getting squashed on PPV. His time in the WWF? Absolute nonsense. Beefcake was as over as anybody else in the company except Hogan or Warrior, and there were times a genuine case could be made for him being the #2 babyface in the company.

That's a spot on comparison. I thought the same thing. They even kind of look similar. Nick Gulas: "Soon as I get home, first thing I'm gonna do is punch yo mamma in the mouth!"

Kendall and Dustin Rhodes had a short lived tag team in '88 called the Texas Broncos that seemed to be on the rise in JCP but then Dustin left in '89 at the same time as his dad. I think that might be the closest he ever got to being seen as a rising talent on national television.

All his daddy ever gave him was a family discount on the largest and most prosperous wrestling territory of them all.

Dustin Rhodes' initial WCW push Absolutely, but what a turnaround. Dustin was a pretty good worker right out the gate and seemed to get the business, but dude would have gotten more love if he was elevated into the US title picture Also just read his daughter Dakota is 30? I feel so old I wanna puke, or get a colonoscopy or something
