Absolutely hates her gimmick, he does think she's good, which makes him hate her gimmick even more. Alvarez clearly hates all the goofy stuff that makes NXT great. Alvarez usually likes most of the NXT goofy stuff. He loved all the Von segments, Jace U, Kiana & Brooks and other NXT silliness. He just hates Tatum because he hates "SPOOKY".

I'll be honest, I'm a pretty sheltered dude but even I know enough to use urban dictionary when I can definitively tell when something is being used as slang. Alvarez is just a clueless and frankly weird dude sometimes.

I don’t want to be too mean to Alvarez here, but he’s got to know how gringo he comes off sometimes.

Even if you didn't know the specific meaning....it CLEARLY wasn't meant to be referring to a literal cookout! Open a f***ing google. Or Bing it.

To be fair, I probably wouldn't have gotten the reference if I watched the show live (I usually don't get to it until the weekend). Then again, I wouldn't have shown my whole ass the same way Bryan did. As the old saying goes, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt." Alvarez clearly hates all the goofy stuff that makes NXT great. Alvarez usually likes most of the NXT goofy stuff. He loved all the Von segments, Jace U, Kiana & Brooks and other NXT silliness. He just hates Tatum because he hates "SPOOKY". On a personal level, I don't mind spooky stuff. My issue comes when wrestling goes into the supernatural realm. I can suspend my disbelief to a certain extent, but something like Papa Shango cursing Ultimate Warrior and making him vomit or sweat some black substance, or the absolute sorcery that Papa Shango was also the Godfather? Sorry, that's just going too far! The ironic thing is I enjoyed the original Broken Matt Hardy stuff.
Even AEWs House of Black feels like it goes in that direction sometimes, though...I realise I'm in the WWE section, but for those of you who also watch AEW, you notice that only one person (Julia Hart) who has been misted has turned and joined HoB? I assume the mist doesn't actually work. Did Julia depart the Varsity Blonds because she turned to the dark side?
Anyway, back on topic... I think if there was anything to hate about Tatum in NXT, it isn't Tatum herself, but how she's been booked at times. I mean, that whole Lyra/Tatum storyline did neither any favours, and I would argue that both came out of it worse off than they were before it. I grant that's saying something, given that Lyra was called up and is apparently getting something of a run. It's like they tried to do the Trish Stratus/Mickie James storyline, only with less sexual tension and with Paxley (in the James role) losing damn near every match she had.
Seriously, have you seen her win/loss record on the main NXT show? She has all of three wins out of 32 matches (two solo, one tag). Her win over Thea Hail two months ago was her first solo win on the main NXT show since July 12, 2022. For that, she was rewarded with being put in a three-way for the title against Roxanne and Lyra, which I figured would have driven Bryan nuts since he goes on and on about how much he hates when someone get one win (if that), then immediately gets a title shot. Yet...not a word. Strange.

I saw someone speculate lately that the mist doesn't actually TURN you evil, but it reveals what's lurking inside of you. Which means Julia always had a dark side.

Alvarez clearly hates all the goofy stuff that makes NXT great. nxt is fun partly because of it taking steps to be modern (yes i am aware how funny that is after an episode where shawn spears won a match, which i think was the right call) men who are not modern or are so far inside their own personal bubble to not care about such a thing are going to be a leg up on not liking a show like this I don't think it's that. I'm older than Alvarez, and I stopped paying attention to popular culture years ago, I just don't treat wrestling as super serious. It's entertainment and NXT entertains me.
