As of late, I have been watching TV spots of movies from the 1990s, particularly from the mid-1990s. Back in those days, I remember when the trailers and TV spots would include a list of soundtrack artists. Sure, it was sometimes common to see promotion for the novelization at the bottom of the list of production credits, as well as the soundtrack where it would say "Soundtrack on (insert record label)." But other times, you would see the list of artists as well. Sometimes, even the name of a lead single would be included in the spot.
I also remember when even the TV spots would heavily promote the soundtrack, either by showing clips of the film, along with the clips of artists' names. If that wasn't enough, I recall when there would be clips of the music video for a leading single of the soundtrack on the TV spot. Yes, I am aware of when there was a music video, you would see footage from the movie used, but sometimes the footage from the music video in the TV spot.
Hell, I remember the days when I would watch the VHS of a film, and before the movie started, there was an ad for the soundtrack album. One of the most recent examples of that was on the Blu-ray (or DVD; I must check) for "Furious 7," which was in 2015.
One of the reasons I have been interested in this topic is that when I saw the trailer for the film, "I Saw the TV Glow," there was a list of soundtrack artists included. I thought to myself, "I haven't seen anything like this in a long time."
Do you guys remember any of this happening? I recall it was more commonplace in the mid-to-late-1990s to sometime in the early-2000s. Not sure if they went beyond that, but I could be wrong. I noticed it wasn't as common in the early-1990s, but it happened sometimes.

Yeah, movies used to feel like an event. Movies used to have one or two if not all of the following: An awesome soundtrack (with one or two big singles,) tie in with a fast food place maybe even soft drink cans, trailers with no film footage that were like two minute short films, and parodies on the mtv movie awards.
Batman Forever, The Crow, Godzilla, the Rami Spider-Man films, even Spawn.
There was no escaping some of those films. Some of the soundtracks were better than the movies.

Some of the soundtracks were better than the movies. Singles is one where I bet more have heard that soundtrack than seen the film. And Judgment Night. When that came out felt like everyone I knew had a copy of the soundtrack. Maybe 2 of uus saw the movie.
