Kudos for remembering Larry Holmes... guy mopped up one generation, p'wnd the next, and very nearly held his own with the one after that.
And Johnson, by all accounts, was exceptional during his peak years, and may well have had the best chance out of them all again a very prime Foreman... he'd have fought an incredible defensive fight.

What about Jack Johnson? Sure he was way before our time but that guy looked threatening. Agreed. The man was an absolute beast - champ from 1908-1915, and the first black champion to boot. He was also one of the first heavyweight boxers to box a defensive style - before him, most people just swung wildly and hoped to connect. Johnson changed all that, as he preferred to wait for his opponents to make mistakes and then capitalize. I love this topic, btw. Here's some other boxers who didn't get much love from the poll: Jack Dempsey - Not the greatest boxer of all-time, but he was definitely the biggest legitimate bad-ass perhaps in the history of the sport. Won the championship in 1919 from Jess Willard in the first heavyweight title fight that actually had to be stopped because one opponent was hurting so badly (Willard). Floyd Patterson - Lightning-quick boxer, and also historicall significant as he was the first two-time heavyweight champion after regaining his title in 1960. Larry Holmes - Very nearly matched Rocky Marciano's record for consecutive victories to open a career - stopping just short after first posting a 48-0 record and losing his 49th fight in a VERY questionable decision. One of the most dominant fighters of the '80s. I love that someone else remembered the "forgotten"....very cool.

I didn't add Floyd Patterson to the poll because i thought no one ever heard about him. It is cool that some one else knows who he is. I like Larry Holmes but I do not recall him winning the WBA world heavy weight title.
