Good thing they had Steve Buscemi to send the crowd home happy, what with his horribly violent serial killer character getting to enjoy himself at the craps tables.

The Cage 90's trilogy of The Rock, Conair, and Face-Off. It might be the best run of 1990's action entertainment.

I brought this movie up to my dad earlier, and he always though Buscemi was brilliant in this movie, and we discussed how you keep expecting something awful to happen when he’s playing Barbies with that little girl and then nope, we’re apparently supposed to consider him one of the heroes and he escapes to go gambling It really is bizarre. His character essentially fills the wise old convict role, only he's an unrepentant monster who's presented as a changed man because he didn't kill a child when presented with the opportunity. |

Buscemi is the only reason I attempted to watch Con Air. And even the greatness that is STEVE BUSCEMI couldnt keep me watching. |

Poe really did get a raw deal with that awful public defender suggesting he plead guilty.
When they talk about the prison exchange, they mention that the prisoners they're exchanging are all white, hence why Baby-O couldn't go. However, one of the officers they're passing off as a prisoner was black, so I always assumed Poe could suggest that keeping a cop as a hostage would be a good incentive, but at the same level Cyrus could have said no.
Pretty good ensemble movie, all the characters get a chance to stand out, and Cage himself is pretty one note, albeit he's written to be.
Colm Meaney had some great one liners in this movie too.
In the TV edit version, they show that Swamp Thing survives, although in the theatrical cut it's implied (but not shown) that he died.

Say what you will about the artistic merits of Bruckheimer’s movies but they can be shockingly great at character establishment. This big dumb movie has like 20 quotable characters. Roger Ebert wrote that the scene in Armageddon where they’re rounding the riggers up to go to NASA is one of the greatest examples of character establishment ever; in 3 minutes you know everything you need to know about 5 guys.
