1. San Diego Chargers - Once again, San Diego proves they are above all AFC teams are are my favorite to win the whole thing. Its not that they have the best record, its the fact that they have proven to be above everyone else. The only team that could have a remote chance of beating them are the Ravens, but I say remote because San Diego has grown from being that team that the Ravens beat.
2. Baltimore Ravens - The only team capable of beating San Diego in the postseason. Baltimore have, in my opinion, the comeback player of the year in Steve McNair. For Baltimore, they seem to have found the missing link they have always needed to make their team better. The Ravens have earned a bye week and while so close to getting home field advantage in the postseason, a Thursday Night loss to the Bengals cost them that shot.
3. Chicago Bears - While the Bears are the best NFC team in my ranking due to their record, they proved last night that they may not be the Super Bowl team we are looking for. Things may change, but the Bears are just limping into home field advantage after a bad loss to the Green Bay Packers.
4. Indianapolis Colts - The Colts, like the Bears dont seem to be that team that will go to the Super Bowl. Sure they may have finally had a win to end the regular season, but they have fallen very far and Im not sure if they can recover.
5. New England Patriots - Allthough we can never truly count New England out of the Super Bowl alltogether, it does seem that they are not the team they were two years ago and sadly not even the team they were last year. Receiver problems and the injury bug have killed them this season.
6. New Orleans Saints - I dont care that they lost to Carolina this week. It was a meaningless game and because of that, the Saints are my prediction to come out of the NFC. It seems that draft selections (a draft year that may be looked at from years to come in a positive way) and the gift of Drew Brees from the San Diego Chargers has given the Saints a very inspirational season. If the Saints make the big game, I can see a movie being made from this season and that is a good thing for the city of New Orleans, The Saints, and sports fans ourselves.
7. Philadelphia Eagles - The Eagles have proven to be a really good team all around. They have won another NFC East title in a year that people were saying the Cowboys or the Giants or the Redskins (talk about zero respect). Jeff Garcia has proven to be still a quality quarterback who could be used to take a team to the next level (which probably means that he wont be back with the Eagles next year). Keep your chin up Eagles fan, there still may be a Super Bowl victory in your future.
8. New York Jets - "Mangenius", a name originally meant to mock Eric Mangini, has become a term of endearment now after Mangini has saved the Jets organization from the planned and ever so hated rebuilding year. The Jets may not go far in the postseason, but they shall make things interesting for their opponents. Jets fans, you can be proud to say J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets again.
9. Kansas City Chiefs - For weeks now, we have said that Kansas City needed a miracle to make the postseason. Well, that miracle came true after a victory over the Jaguars and Denver, Tennessee, and Cincinnati's losses this week. The Chiefs have a perfect successor to Dick Vermeil in Herman Edwards (who for years has garnered a nickname of "The Fire Breathing Dragon" from myself).
10. Seattle Seahawks - The Seahawks have got a home game, but from the ways they have played this season, dont be suprised if they lose this home game. Yeah, I said it....Seattle is probably going to be one and done. Give me a good reason for the opposite after this season. Sure you can say injuries effected the outcome, but the end result is still the same. Seattle is not the Super Bowl runner up they were last year.
11. Denver Broncos - Going into the New Year, I had thought that Denver had won because they had a pretty good lead last I checked, but somehow....Jay Cutler (John Elway my Virginia ass) and the Broncos blew it again. The Broncos seemed to have everything going for them at the middle of the season, but boy did they blow that to hell. Just the story of the entire season is akin to the Rise and Fall of ECW.
12. Dallas Cowboys - Dallas, word of advice, get rid of Terrell Owens. You may lose some money in the end but its far better to cough up the money then have that man continue to be a distraction and throw your team under the bus every chance he gets. His greed and ego is uncontrollable and I would hope that if you release him that no team will hire him. Dallas should also not put Terrell Owens on the playoff roster because he has the chance of screwing up every chance you have left. All of these have been opinionated for a while and all the problems came to fruition in an embarressing loss to the Lions.
13. Green Bay Packers - After beating the Bears, the Packers should be in the playoffs. I dont care about this whole strength of schedule crap because as we all know, unlike college, you cant control the schedule. It is a shame that if this is Bret Farve's last season, this would be the way he goes out. I congratulate the Packers on a should be playoff year by ranking them ahead of the Giants.
14. New York Giants - The Giants may have gotten into the postseason, but like Seattle....consider your season one and done. With pathetic losses to Tennessee among others and pathetic plays by Plexico Burress and Eli Manning, the Giants have proven to be pathetic. And one more thing, they barely beat the pathetic Redskins and if it wasnt for Tiki Barber, they would have lost. When Tiki retires after this year, the Giants better find a replacement because Brandon Jacobs wont be able to carry Tiki's legacy on his own.
15. Tennessee Titans - The Titans may not be in the postseason this year, but they can have a positive look into next year. From the chaos that was their quarterback situation to the great potential that was realised with Vince Young, the Titans can look into 2007-2008 with a shot at making the postseason. And I guarentee that unless something unforeseen happens, their head coach will continue his reign in Tennessee.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars - The one thing that Ron Jaworski had right about this season was the fact that the Jaguars were mentally weak. After a good win, they would always follow it up with a pathetic loss. The Jaguars might want to take care of their QB situation and then take care of their entire team.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers - Some things never change and in this case it came true. The Pittsburgh Steelers have once again eliminated the Bengals from the postseason. The Steelers have proven once again to be the ultimate thorn in Cincinnati's back. And next season, they may want to tell Big Ben Roethlisberger to take some time to relax and hopefully come back better next season.
18. Cincinnati Bengals - Welcome back to Bungleville, Cincinnati. After a year plagued by numerous arrests and dissapointment, the Bengals blew a lead and lost in overtime to the much hated Steelers. For the Bengals to become the best team in their conference, they may want to find a way to seperate themselves from the Steelers for good.
19. Carolina Panthers - The biggest dissapointment of the entire postseason is right here. Carolina was in my opinion, a serious Super Bowl contender. Hell, at the begining of the season, I was ready to have the Panthers in the big game. That didnt happen. Instead, the Panthers showed up way too late for any consideration and while I am not saying Jake Delhomme should be benched (although I have considered it), the Panthers need to draft a quarterback in this year's draft because Jake Delhomme is not the future and Chris Weinke is certainley not it either.
20. St. Louis Rams - The Rams were too little too late in their effort to make the postseason. While Stephen Jackson is a beast at running back, the rest of the team doesnt seem to be there yet. Make a few offseason movies (and good ones I mean), and they might make the playoffs next season.
21. San Francisco 49ers - The Niners did better than anyone would have thought and that is a good thing for the future of the 5 time Super Bowl Champions. Alex Smith and Frank Gore as well as others have a shot at next season, but draft picks might still need to be made.
22. Buffalo Bills - The Bills are pretty much in the same place they were last season....as a mediocre team. More draft picks may help the Bills and dont be afraid to draft for the future on anyone. Sure certain players may not like it, but people in Buffalo want back the team of old and maybe perhaps a team that can win the Super Bowl.
23. Atlanta Falcons - Well, Jim Mora Jr. put it on himself when he made questionable interviews and when the Falcons A Team cant beat the Eagles C Team, you sure as hell have problems. I am also starting to get concerned that Michael Vick may not be the quarterback that everyone projected him to be and may become one of the ultimate dissapointments in the history of NFL quarterbacks.
24. Houston Texans - I hate to say this, but I was wrong in saying the Texans would not change at all this season because they have. Sure the Texans may still be last in the AFC South, but they made improvements and with a few more years of drafting players, they may have a shot at a future. To Texas Tornado, you were right.
25. Miami Dolphins - I find it ironic the the Dolphins last starting QB had the last name of Lemmon because that is exactly what the Dolphins were this season. I honestly do not know what the Dolphins can do in the future to make things better. I know there is always a way, but I cant see in right now.
26. Minnesota Vikings - The Vikings had great weeks in the begining and I was continuing to think that Brad Johnson can still be a starting QB. Boy was I wrong. After this season, all Brad Johnson can be is a backup. He just doesnt have it in him for the long 16 regular season games.
27. Arizona Cardinals - The Cardinals looked great at the end of this year, but humongous choke jobs were the folly as Dennis Green was fired by the Cardinals. Matt Leinart is right now the future of that organization and hopefully he wont dissapoint.
28. Washington Redskins - The Redskins may say they see promise from this season, but I dont because the Redskins didnt make the playoffs like they were supposed to. Maybe after this season, Daniel Snyder will realise that he doesnt know how to run a football team and let Joe Gibbs really run the team.
29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - A team whose future is completely clouded in mystery is the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have had spurts of greatness, but with injuries....they have been small. Unlike other teams whose I can probably see good or bad futures in, I cant see either with Tampa Bay.
30. Cleveland Browns - The Browns really need to make some moves this offseason or else it may end up being another dissapointing year like this year. The Browns have no real starting QB and have no real good future with the current team.
31. Detroit Lions - With a victory over Dallas, the Lions can relax by knowing that they are no longer the worst team after beating the Dallas Cowboys in a complete shocker.
32. Oakland Raiders - Welcome back to being the worst team in football, Oakland. No good future is near and prepare for another miserable year next year.
2. Baltimore Ravens - The only team capable of beating San Diego in the postseason. Baltimore have, in my opinion, the comeback player of the year in Steve McNair. For Baltimore, they seem to have found the missing link they have always needed to make their team better.
