I still say Merriman deserves it.

Taylor is a monster and I agree that if your caught with a performance enhancer in your system that should disqualify you from getting the award for that year. I know that Merriman is still good, but let him earn it next year by being clean for the whole season.

If Julius Peppers had finished the season as strong as he started he would have been a good nominee.

It seems that he was using politics to win.

I still think Merriman was better, but I get the circumstances this year. He'll take it next year.

Good. Merriman didn't deserve it. Even if he is innocent, it would have looked terrible for the NFL if he won.

I know that Merriman is still good, but let him earn it next year by being clean for the whole season. I don't get this train of thought. The punishment for what Merriman did was four games. He served the punishment. If his accomplishments during his shortened season warranted consideration for the award, then he should have been considered. If his numbers didn't compare, then he should have been excluded. My point is that Jason Taylor gets to decide what the punishment is for steroid use when he and the members of the football players association sign off on the collective bargaining agreement. He doesn't get to decide it when he could possibly fall short of winning an award. His comments were ploticking. I guess it worked.

I doubt what Taylor said had much to do with that, Merriman did it to himself.

Its Merriman's own fault. Maybe if he didn't take whatever they found him guilty of taking and he didn't get suspended he would have the award. Yes he was punished for 4 games and he did his time. I still don't think he should get the award because if your taking something that is supposedly ENHANCING your performance, that is the same thing as cheating in my opinion. Its also unfair to those who played completely clean.
Not to say that Merriman didn't have the talent because he does. He did great after he came back but I agree with what Jason Taylor said. I don't think its politics at all. The NFL could've gave Merriman the award if they wanted to but they gave it to Taylor and I think he would've gotten it if he spoke up or not.

Everytime I see the title of this thread I read "James Taylor wins Defensive MVP" and wonder, "when did he stop writing songs and start playing football?"
I assume this is about football.
