This place really ended when BradTheRad stopped posting his booking ideas like Kane beating Undertaker, and Kane becomes the new Undertaker complete with him now having Takers voice when he does a promo. And Goldust becoming Kane calling himself Redust.

Tom Macdonald's really taking that most recent Mac Lethal diss to heart. What thread was this in? I've seen a couple of people mention it, but I'm curious about the context. It can't be embedded for a laundry list of reasons, but look up Mac Lethal "Tom Macdonald Is A Nazi." The absolutely most scathing diss not about Drake this year.

So lemme bring the perspective of someone who already had his "y'all are the fun police" phase once before. And if any mods think I'm giving too many details, call me on it, but everyone else seems to have gone a little "Inside Baseball" so I figured it wasn't a big deal, long as I didn't call out anybody specific. I know from my post-count and from my "account created" date it doesn't seem like I'm an old veteran, not to mention the long gaps in my posts in recent years (though with Twitter being a cesspool and BlueSky being less active, I might be posting more often again).
I had closed my prior account because I once hit a point of being fed up with things around here, and thought FOR SURE I wasn't coming back. I was here when it was the former site and laughed as much as anyone else when the podcast made jokes about trannies and "gay Popeye" and those jokes have aged like a carton of cream in the desert sun. And I say all that will still being friends with "the old pal" on Facebook and receiving writing assistance from him. I remember feeling like I could never post anything in the pro wrestling thread without getting called out for "being wrong", or without someone playing the "you can't say 'EVERYBODY' " card and having the "well obviously I don't literally mean EVERYBODY" talk. There was a minute where The Miz's shit didn't just not stink but never did stink. There were AGES that it felt like we had to treat AJ Lee like she was to American women's wrestling what Manami Toyota or Bull Nakano were in Japan. Without mentioning names, I still have the mod DMs where I was politely told to back off, and I essentially responded with "sit and spin". The mods aren't perfect, no mod group is. But I do feel like they've let more stuff slide than ever. The Logan Paul thread being a prime example. I was sent a link to that shortly after it was temp-locked, and I was surprised it got that far. That having been said. Some topics on here are inevitably going to "go there". Logan Paul's list of things he's done, whether you find him blameless or not, is not a short list. To expect EVERYBODY to single out "Logan Paul; the performer" feels like as tall a task as singling out "Chris Benoit; the performer". You want to ignore the noise? Good luck, it's deafening. And I mention the Logan Paul thread because....reading that OP, it SUUUUUUUUUUURE seemed like that was the spark that lit the fuse. I don't envy the mods at all. If they rulesharked the rules of the forum and tried to create justification for deleting posts, locking threads, etc., people would take issue with that. Shit, I took issue with that. But if they take the gloves off, then it's too lenient. There's a fine line to walk, and I don't always agree with it. I have a friend that's an ex-member that was banned for something I personally thought was rather milquetoast, while there's certain members that make me wanna message a mod and go "How many chances are you gonna give this jerk?!?". But all in all, they do a good job. To expect "perfection" is too much for a forum this size. It'd be like expecting a baseball ump to call every pitch and every play-at-the-plate right. As for the members around here, it's like any other group of people. There's some that are gonna call every foul how they see it, there's some that'll let them slide, there's some that'll tell you about the days of leather helmets and playing with concussions. To expect the entire forum to slide one way or the other (without some political/religiously radical or a very specific niche) is asking too much as well. The chances of you running into someone you disagree with is inevitable. The chances of running into someone you disagree with A LOT is inevitable. Hell, there's people in the F.A.N.tasy Football League I'm the commish of that, a few years ago, I'd have told to cross the street longways while I record their score. You gotta either be able to handle that business in a civil manner or walk it off and don't respond (which is a lot LESS shameful and cowardly than many of you have been led to believe). And if that involves taking a break from a section of the board, if that involves avoiding a part of the board outright, so be it. My brother The Legend of Groose will flat out tell people he goofs around on here because he prefers it to posting seriously all the time (though there's a few exceptions where he does). Hell, maybe you gotta take a break or step away from the forum altogether! No forum or outlet is for literally E V E R Y B O D Y, no matter how hard you try to be all-encompassing. This place is no different. And where those lines are are going to change, both case-by-case and over time. People change, ipso facto, the vibe will too. Least, that's how I see it.

I don't get the impression that you're on my side when you like awful posts like this one. I know this is an extremely alien concept for some of you, but it's possible to be against [thing] while being annoyed with people who won't ever shut the f*** up about [thing].

This place isn't perfect, but it still by far the absolute best and nicest forum for wrestling I've ever found, past present and honestly likely future too. Certainly a lot better than it was years ago as well.
You can focus on serious arguments, shitpost or combine the two, but rembember, regardless of the platform, it's never good to take things too seriously online (took me a bit too long to really learn this tbh). No one is forcing anyone to post, read or respond to anything in any part of the internet, so whenever you feel a discussion is getting out of hand, just drop it. An online debate that turns into a fight can't be won, because at that point all parties will refuse to budge, so any enrichment that could be gained through dialog will disappear.

Every once in a while I randomly remember and that and think to myself "God, it's insane that it happened, isn't it?". And then he made a really shitty movie called Bright. There’s a movie about Carlie?

I will say that CRZ's forum was also always really chill, but it died a long time ago. It technincally still exists, but nobody posts there anymore.

I’ve been an infrequent poster but an avid reader here for a decade and a half and the only reason I stuck around was because this place grew up with me. It got the immaturity of its system more or less parallel with me and it’s honestly really cool to see how welcoming and inclusive it’s become. I’ll take that over the edgelord humor and various misogyny, racism, and LGBTQIA+ phobia that dominated the landscape when I first registered to make fun of WWECW.

If I can be serious for a moment, I will also say that while I agree that people often see their past through rose-tinted glasses, including for these here forums, I am not fond of people trying to paint it in an undeservedly bad light in order to make the present look more enlightened either. I'm seeing people acting like this place used to be some kind of den of constant bigotry, which is just plain untrue. Having been around since the mid-2000s, I can assure yout that these forums have always been way more progressive and inclusive than the vast majority of online communities.
I feel like both attitudes are manifestations of the very frequent issue of people not being able to conceive of things as anything but binary extremes where if it's not the best, it's the worst and if it's not the worst, it's the best.

I can't adequately explain it, but I think the nature of what wrestling is plays a part to. I have nostalgia for the way I felt watching Hulk Hogan when I was 7. At the same time I fully recognize who & what he is. That doesn't be 7 year old me was wrong, it means they didn't have the information. Reality is reality though. At 42 I know he's at best a highly flawed individual. Because wrestling is ultimately a con that has attracted scummy people Hogan's name can be swapped out with a lot of others. And I think for some people they don't want to resolve the world of kayfabe their fandom grew out of and the real world we all live in. When I hear "I wish I could go back before I knew ..." the first thing I think is that they don't want to deal with complexity, they just want entertainment.
It relates to FAN because this place has tried to be a place where all can be their genuine selfs. So yeah, when big names in the industry say blatantly racist, or transphobic things wrestling fans who are poc or trans are going to respond, as our people that are going to call out shitty toxicity. Yes, that means sometimes a thread will take a serious turn when talking about one of those people in relation to the wrestling business.
So I don't think this place became the fun police. I think it's a place where a percentage of members want to place wrestling and pop culture in a fish bowl separate from complicated realities and the rest that accept the complexity.

Overall, the forum is better in some ways and worse in others. I personally find it a lot better, because most of the awful sexist threads about the women wrestlers have gone. Seeing some of those comments about Mickie James etc really put me off posting here for years. That's as much a reflection on the board as it is on wrestling at large.
