What do you use your computer for?
My computer broke down finally. It was good run, long time. Though I’ve debating whether or not to get a new one. Most of the stuff I do online, I can do with my phone or tablet with Bluetooth keyboard. But I feel weird without one as i grew up in a generation where there was always a computer in my house and I was always doing something on it. But I feel like I can’t justify dropping the money on something I technically don’t need without a clear purpose in mind. The only thing I can think of right now is storage, so I can take pictures off my phone and not rely on a cloud of online storage. I’m thinking of a Mac so I can airdrop stuff with ease.
I’m guessing most of these answer would probably be Gaming.

I use it for writing, photoshop, and recording/editing podcasts and content creation. Otherwise my iPhone would be enough.

Writing and gaming for games that just aren't console friendly like a lot of MMORPG's and work better with keyboard and mouse than controllers.
Also watching videos on a screen bigger than a phone's.
If you get a PC for gaming, I'd recommend learning how to build it yourself or finding someone who can do it for you. If you've got something like a Micro Center nearby, they're really helpful with picking out compatible, reliable parts and will even build it for you. And you won't have to worry about obnoxious proprietary parts, subpar components, or your system getting bogged down by bloatware like you'd usually get from a pre-built from the Dells and HPs of the world. Can usually save some money that way too, though you will have to pay labor for someone to build it for you.

Mostly gaming, though it's not a particularly powerful laptop. Also find it safer to do most online banking or shopping from it.
I use it to watch videos from services that have no apps yet too, like DPW or other indys.

I like being able to sit down with my laptop on my days off and read off my computer screen instead of reading my cell phone. Using your phone too much gives hand cramps. Also sometimes I need the bigger screens and flexibility that my cell phone simply can't provide (like when I have to make insurance claims, for example).

For years my computer was my entertainment centre. When I moved to university I couldn't afford a tv, so anything I watched was on my computer, any games I played were on my computer. Also, I like having a screen larger than my hand. Generally, given the option, I would prefer to use a computer over a phone for most tasks.
I use Word and Excel for various things including making character sheets for various RPGs, but also for day to day tasks that warrant it. Various adulting stuff. I much prefer if I'm shopping online or doing banking with my mortgage as I can easily have multiple tabs and larger displays to see everything I want to at once. Even now when I have a tv and a ps4, I'm just as likely to watch something on my computer.
I actually have the opposite situation of you where I have a tablet and apart from using it to keep my rpg pdfs on, I'm not really sure what purpose it serves. Luckily, I got a really good deal on it.
Phones can do a lot of stuff nowadays but the tiny screen and mobile interface just leave me much preferring my laptop or pc for anything other than browsing forums.

Laptop for most stuff.
Phone is for calls and texts.
Tablet for music and minor stuff.
But I need more than a phone or tablet can offer often.

It's generally how I talk to most people.
It's how I watch most tv or movies as well.
When I was job hunting it was essential because I needed access to my email since literally every company requires you to email or fill out their online application.
I do alot of my shopping online as well, especially when I was working odd hours.
I do game yes but that is probably the least amount of time I spend on the computer.

Writing, music and internet for me. I can do the last two on my phone but I prefer to keep that for when I’m out of the house.

Writing, gaming, and web browsing. I'd never had a gaming PC until a few years back when I got a hand-me-down from a friend that was upgrading, and I've upgraded mine to be fairly neck-and-neck with current-gen consoles (and up to spec to the computer my friend upgraded to).
I have a separate Chromebook for work (Paraprofessional at an elementary school) but I almost never use it unless the instructor I'm helping needs me to print something or find an activity on Pinterest or some of the instructor-only sites we use.

Writing, editing, and formatting. I could do all of this on my iPad but Windows has better tools for this than iOS currently and my laptop battery lasts longer. I use my iPad for all media and web surfing. Not a big gamer. My laptop has probably one year at best left but will probably still pick up a replacement when the time comes (I know a place that sells factory rejects dirt cheap which helps).
