Let's see, the first action figure line I remember collecting was He-Man. Then it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In my teens I mostly focused on my wrestling figures (WWF Hasbro era). In college I started collecting Transformers figures for the Beast era.
Hey, this might be a good thread to ask this. At some point as a kid I had these vehicle toys (I believe a car and a jet) that were made from clear plastic. They each came with a small, maybe 2 inch figure that would also turn clear if you dipped them in hot water. Does anybody else remember these and know what they were called?

LEGO was my toys of choice when I was a child, Castle being my absolute favs. This was my most treasured set: I still have it and all the other sets from back then, stored away. Sadly, none of the boxes are left.

Here’s an obscure one I’m wondering if anyone knows the answer to.
It probably would have been sometime in the mid 1990s. I had this action figure from some failed toy line with a gold and blue color pattern. Googling it doesn’t help, but he kind of looked like Booster Gold. Only his mask was more like Spider-Man’s mask. I don’t think he had a cape or anything or if he did it was some cheap detachable one I took off after buying him then never re-attached. The mask was gold and I think black (mostly gold) and I think the gold extended down to his chest. The rest was blue.
Any ideas?

Sadly, none of the boxes are left. Lego Castle, Space and Pirates almost always didn't disappoint. What I enjoyed most about the 80's and 90's sets was how they were able to create unique factions with color schemes and accessories to differentiate from one another. Pretty much every year from 1987 to 1997 for me had great sets.

First line I really remember playing with was Ninja Turtles. I got them for Christmas in 1990, maybe? Had no clue what they were lol but my Mom and Nana went all in on them, so I learned quickly. That Christmas, I got all four turtles, April, Splinter, Shredder, Krang, Rocksteady, Bebop, Slash, Muckman, Baxter Stockman and a Foot Soldier. Like I said, all in. I had a few vehicles, including the party van and I had the Technodrome.
A couple years later, I got really into Batman, coinciding with Batman Returns and TAS both coming out. I had Batman, Robin, The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman and the Batcave and Batmobile toys.
Power Rangers was a big one for me, too. Of course, in 1993, the toys were nowhere to be found, but over the next year, my sisters and I started getting a lot of the toys. My Nana back-ordered a ton of the little collectibles for us, then my aunt and uncle got us the Blue and Pink Ranger flip morphing toys. And that Christmas, we got the remaining four Rangers (no White Ranger yet, as it had only been two months since the debut) and some monsters. I also had the Red Dragon Thunder Zord.
After that, I got big into wrestling, which is another post altogether lol

Mostly Masters of the Universe and Transformers. Super Powers too, though I think I mostly only got first wave figures. (no Darkseid, Firestorm, etc.)

I had 10+ ljn WWF figures, some of guys I didn't see on tv ever, like Outback Jack. I don't remember them all, but I do remember Hogan, Andre, Jimmy Hart, Hillbilly Jim, Piper, Volkoff, Kirchner, Superfly,and Macho. I remember trading them all to an older cousin for a poster from WWF magazine, because I was a stupid child. My parents were understandably pissed.

Growing up with not so much money, and a stingy mother when it came to buying toys, I ended up having the majority of toys come from kids meals. Some of my favorites;
McDonald's Food transformers from 1988 and 1990 Tiny Toons cars from 1990 and 1992 Halloween McNuggets from 1992
Burger King Bonkers crash apart cars from 1993
Wendy's Animalink pens from 1994
Also, a cheap purchase when I was a young kid was getting Hot Wheels for 50 cents each. Matchbox cars were more expensive, plus they broke way easier. Hot Wheels on the other hand took an absolute beating.

I feel like every kid had a Kirchner because the parents/grandparents bought it because it was an Army man type toy. One of my neighbors had one but no other LJNs. Most kids in my neighborhood seemed to only have Macho and Junkyard Dog.

As I kid I think I thought it was Ricky Steamboat because green=dragon.

I was of toy-loving age in the mid-80s and early 90s so it’s little wonder that I’ve retained an appreciation for toys and action figures ever since.
Dino-Riders: I never had the bigger sets, but I had a few of the smaller ones. What can be said about realistic (for the time) dinosaurs with armor and weapons and little people for scale? It blows my mind that this had never had a reboot.
Transformers: Specifically Powermaster Optimus Prime. Robots that turn into vehicles and things. Evergreen toy idea.
Voltron: Only had the smaller lion Voltron as a kid, but much like with Transformers, it was robots that did stuff.
Ninja Turtles: I never minded that they didn’t look much like the cartoon versions, they were cool as heck.
Real Ghostbusters: I’m so glad I got in on these early, because after the first wave of toys, it was years of cool ghosts and weird gimmicky versions of the guys I had zero interest in. Had the car, the firehouse, and a LOT of the figures.
Power Rangers: I was *right* at the age where liking Power Rangers would be looked at as weird. Maybe like 11 or 12, but I absolutely loved the costumes and the robots. Unfortunately, opportunistic adult scalpers meant I was already an adult before I’d get any of the toys except the OG Megazord and a few of the auto-morphin guys.
Fun story, my first Christmas alone after I moved to Japan and I found myself with a bunch of disposable income for the first time ever. Bought myself a set of *sealed* MMPR zords and auto-Morphin rangers to open on Christmas morning. It was a merry Christmas indeed. 😂

Ninja Turtles: I never minded that they didn’t look much like the cartoon versions, they were cool as heck. I loved the gritty details on the figures, like the rats molded to the Rat King's arm, the spiders and junk on General Traag, and the sewn up Frankenstein-esque details on Krang's android body. To me, they were the 'correct' appearances, and when I would watch the cartoon on occasion (usually old tapes rented from the library since the cartoon was dying or dead by the time I was sentient), I was disappointed in how things weren't super detailed.

I had the Mortal Kombat action figures from the 90s. I still have a lot of the Jakks-Pacific WWF action figures from the late 90s. My favorite being the glow-in-the-dark Ministry Undertaker.

Speaking of TMNT, does anyone remember the weird Fox series "Next Mutation"? I think I tried to watch the show, but it did not hold my attention whatsoever. I do remember thinking that it was cool there was a new girl Turtle. My mom didn't let me get any of the new figures except for her because we already had most of the original series. I had this one with camo armor. The figure is long gone, but I think one of her beating sticks is still among Batman accessories in my parents' attic. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}
