Well, Brian DePalma was a really good pseudo-Hitchcock. But still, I haven't heard any Queen covers that's ever impressed me other than "I want to hear the original instead of this s***." Save of course for Metallica's cover of "Stone Cold Crazy."

Never cover a Queen song. It'll never work out in your favor (Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert aside).
Slightly Mad is total brilliance. Even as close to the end as he was, he still delivered.
And no. I don't know why I can watch THAT one and not "Days of our Lives".

I don't know why I can watch THAT one and not "Days of our Lives". Maybe its because with "Slightly Mad," its not obvious of his impending end. But, jesus he looks so terrible, despite the make-up & cinematography, in "Days of Our Lives," he looks indeed like a dying man making one last artistic quote about life....

It's utter agony to see. I've watched it once and my heart broke the entire time. I always love how the crowd is singing to him in this song, not with him: youtube.com/watch?v=QtqADo-D3mQ&mode=related&search=

What's cool about "These are the days..." Is that years ago, in the song "Love of my Life" Freddie states: "You will remember when this is blown over, And everythings all by the way, When I grow older, I will be there by your side, To remind how I still love you I still love you.
and the very last words in "These are the days of our lives" are- "I still Love You"

I know. It's very sweet.
I've always hated that I never got to see him live.

I don`t go to see bands live. Even ones I like. But I would`ve walked over hot coals to see Queen. My favourite band. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFwOe0EPOJs Here`s another one. Not sure if someone already posted it without a description. It`s a Hard Life.

One of the best bands, not for me, but one of the best lead singers ever for sure. You can hate the band for all it's worth but Freddie's voice can not be denied as one of the best ever.

Queen is great. I love the Flash Gordon soundtrack. I think my favorite Queen song overall though is probably "Play the Game".

The sad thing is, I hate how many Emo Rock acts were inspired by We Are the Champions-era of Queen more than, well more than the stuff that I dig more. From the pulse-stopping awesomeness of "Sheer Heart Attack" to the brave-schizephrenic "Innuendo" to the haunting "Who Wants to Live Forever" to solid rocker tunes like "Stone Cold Crazy", "Hammer to Fall", and "Scandal." Hell, "Scandal" is the only good song on "The Miracle" album. youtube.com/watch?v=fGOtp11hmy0Mm, never heard any emo band influenced by Queen. At least not in any way that shows. But yeah...agreed on everything else.

not to run up in a thread and bash the subject or anything. but i've always found Queen to be overrated and annoying.
now i'm not saying that to piss anyone off or flamebait or anything, i'm actually saying that to say this...
does anyone have like a defenitive list of queen songs i shoudl check out in order to really understand why they are so "great" in so many others eyes? all i've heard is what they play on the radio... are there maybe some lesser known songs that would better illustrate queen for someone who dosen't really know enough to hav an educated opinion?

I believe I read in a magazine where FOB named their most "influential" albums.....and NEWS OF THE WORLD was one of them. *gulp* Nevermind the meh cover version of "We are the Champions" that Green Day does, or did, for some of their concerts.

Their biggest hits suffer from over-playedness. Especially "Bohemian Rhapsody".
I wouldn't know what to reccomend to you though. I don't even know what other artists you like or what kind of songs would appeal to you most. For instance, Brian May's writing style is a bit different from Freddie Mercury's.

okay that song is better. more my speed, ya know? kinda punk rock-y. i dig it. any others? Sure. To be honest, my favorite Queen era was their hard rock era. They seriously, and underrated, kicked ass as hard rockers before "We are the Champions" and A NIGHT OF THE OPERA and all that whatever. I mean, they all rock, but there is a reason why Metallica did a cover of "Stone Cold Crazy." Hell, I'm shocked no heavy metal act, to my knowledge, hasn't recorded a cover of "Sheer Heart Attack." Its like, ready-served meal. Some more, umm? Liked your soup with crackers? Here is your Salad: "Keep Yourself Alive" www.youtube.com/watch?v=znagbnlrSBkHow about a glass of champagne? "Stone Cold Crazy" (Queen '74) www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHQk6HFn4rEand the Metallica Cover* www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3jZ-xsaCO0&mode=related&search=*=The only cover of a Queen tune I've heard where someone successfully adapted to their own style...and made it WORK.
