That's hilarious. It reminds me of when one of the former US presidents (I think it was George Bush Sr.) used Springsteen's "Born in the USA" as his campaign song. It was Reagan, and besides not getting either what it meant, Springsteen was PISSED. Its like when a conservative political magazine, forgot the name, listed The Clash's "Rock the Casbah" as one of the great conservative rock songs ever. Their argument? Because it played alot on radios during the First Gulf War....and that was it. Just bizarre.

That's funny. From what I've heard, Joe Strummer was really proud of "Rock the Casbah" becoming such a big pop hit, considering it's subversive intent.

Well, its one of the few Clash tunes with an easy-to-get-behind populist rhetoric to it, and sadly, its still relevant with the Iranian regime. Its a pity how after finally scoring a Top 10 hit, and an album selling well, and opening for The Who on their tour, The Clash break up* while on the verge of utter mainstream success. *=With Topper already fired for his heroin addiction, firing Mick Jones was the ball breaker.
