Allow me to set this up a little bit, for those who have no idea what I'm talking about. IWC is the International Wrestling Cartel, Pittsburgh PA's premier independent wrestling promotion. Super Indy is an annual 8-man single elimination tournament held by IWC. The Super Indy Title is then defended throughout the year, vacated for the next year's tournament. With that out of the way: Hey folks! This past Friday, I had the pleasure of attending IWC's "A New Beginning Too." We got to the building late, and IWC promoter Norm Connors gave us a deal, where we got 3rd row seats for the price of general admission! Here's the card for the night: IWC World Heavyweight Title Ricky Reyes (C) vs. "The Shooter" Brent Albright
IWC Super Indy Title "Fabulous" John McChesney (C) vs. "Balls Hot" Troy Lords
IWC Tag Team Titles Babyface Fire (C) vs. Sexual Harassment
Sterling James Keenan vs. Delirious
Super Indy VI Qualifier Jay Lethal vs. "Hot Property" Jason Cage
Super Indy VI Qualifier "Showtime" Eric Young vs. "Sweet and Sour" Larry Sweeney
Super Indy VI Qualifier Azriael vs. Nobutaka Moribe
HENTAI and Dean Radford vs. The Gambino Brothers
Raymond Rowe vs. Vendetta
Bubba the Bulldog vs. Michael "The Bomber" Facade Coming up in a few minutes, results and opinions/observations.

Alright folks, here's what happened and stuff.
As I said in the first post, we got to the show late. Unfortunately, it seems I missed HENTAI/Radford vs. Gambinos. I got in at the middle of Azriael vs. Moribe. The match was so-so, with Azriael pinning Moribe following a Top Rope Double Bootstomp to the back of the head. Azriael will be in Super Indy VI.
Up next was Lethal/Cage. A so-so match. Lethal hit a lot of his signature spots, but he seemed to do so in slow motion. Cage small packages Lethal, but Lethal turns it over for the 1-2-3. Lethal will also be in Super Indy VI.
Ray Rowe/Vendetta: Vendetta was accompanied by the Gambinos, while Ray Rowe came out alone. Rowe used a lot of power offense, and Vendetta utilized outside interference, until the ref ejected the Gambinos from ringside. The match was hella short, as from that point, Rowe was in control, and quickly gets the W with an STF.
Up next, Babyface Fire (Shiima Xion and Jason Gory) defend their tag title gold against Sexual Harassment (Eric Xstacy and Justin Idol). Sexual Harassment have a gay gimmick. Anyway, this match had a "face team vs. what seemed to be comedy tweener" dynamic going on. Neither team really had anybody in peril. BFF won, but damned if I can remember how. Best move of the night so far was Jason Gory nailing a Yoshi Tonic on Eric Xstacy.
Final match before intermission was the Super Indy Title Match: McChesney vs. Lords. Don't ask me what "Balls Hot" means. This match was a rematch from "A New Beginning" where these two went to a 20 minute time-limit draw. These two exchanged lots of chops, resulting in Lords's chest being all red and blistery. Lots of threats of uber-dangerous top rope maneuvers that never come to fruition. Sure enough, we get time limit draw. Crowd chants for 5 more minutes. Norm Connors comes out and says that if both men agree to it, 5 minutes will be added to the clock. Both guys agree, and the match continues. McChesney sort of gets a Superplex, but Lords reverses the momentum, and gets the win! Your NEW Super Indy Champion, "Balls Hot" Troy Lords.
Second half results coming soon...

Alright, second half starts out with Bubba the Bulldog vs. Michael Facade. Bubba gets massive heel heat. Bubba cut a promo saying he's the best wrestler in Pittsburgh history and that Kurt Angle is afraid of him. Facade came out to stop this nonsense, looking like a Hot Topic Ninja with dreadlocks. Match was lame, but blissfully short. Bubba wins the match via submission to an Angle-esque Ankle Lock.
Up next, Eric Young/Larry Sweeney. Young got the crowd support by saying that, since he was billed as hailing from an undisclosed location, he'd reveal that that location was none other than Pittsburgh. He went on to say that he's also known as Sydney Crosby, and he plays for the Penguins. At one point in the match, he got a "Syd-ney Cros-by" chant. I know I've gone on and on about disliking Eric Young, but he actually was pretty funny live. And, luckily, not in a bikini. Sweeney owned some annoying lady in the audience. Love that Sweeney. Anyway, I can't remember any of the holds or anything (yeah, I'm a great sports journalist), but the finish comes when Sweeney nails a top rope, overhead, 360 Dragon-ah, who am I kidding? He got Young with a flash pin and got his feet on the ropes for leverage. Sweeney is in Super Indy VI.
Sterling James Keenan/Delirious came up next. Keenan came out in a fur coat, and with his short hair and aviator sunglasses, looked like a dead-ringer Johnny Knoxville. Delirious got a lot of laughs by virtue of not wanting to wrestle (running as far away as possible for as long as possible whenever SJK came anywhere near him, gibberish-ing to the crowd and putting a random hat and some random car keys in his mouth). SJK hit a lot of armdrags. At one point, a portion of the crowd gives an "SJK" chant. Since "Delirious" is a hard name to chant, I combat this with a "BLAH BLAH BLAH!" chant. I'm awesome. ;D Finish comes when SJKnoxville hits a Jig n' Tonic on D (I don't know any other names for the move).
Keenan is in the midst of a challenge from Norm Connors, dubbed "SJK's Road to the Title." If Keenan beats all of his opponents in this challenge, he will receive a shot at the IWC World Title at Super Indy VI. After the match, SJK got the microphone and asked Connors "Who's next?" Connors announces that next month, Sterling James Keenan goes one-on-one with...DA UNDER-no, I'm kidding, it's LOW KI!!!!
Finally, we've come to the main event, Reyes/Albright. This is actually my first exposure to Albright. The match stuck to the ground, with the occasional suplex every so often. The match never really picked up steam, though. Albright worked over the arm, and at one point it seemed he had Reyes with a Fujiwara armbar. Reyes managed to get to the ropes. Reyes ultimately gets the tap out victory, thanks to a Dragon Sleeper, with his legs grapevined around Albright's midsection.
And that's the show. But wait, I'm not done yet. See, I went to the show with a friend who stopped watching wrestling way back when he was in Junior High. He was willing to come, since it was a chance to hang out, and he didn't really have anything better to do. Here's what I gathered:
-He didn't really start to get into anything until Babyface Fire's match. He dug the highflying and was really impressed by Jason Gory's Yoshi Tonic.
-He liked John McChesney because he had a pimp-tacular coat. My buddy's a fan of pimp-tacular coats.
-He enjoyed Eric Young. I enjoyed Eric, too.
-He friggin' LOVED Delirious.
-Reyes/Albright bored him to tears. And, like I said above, it was a pretty lackluster match.
Alright, I'm done wasting your time. Peace out.

Thanks for posting DSR. The perspective of lapsed wrestling fans is always interesting to hear. Pimptacular coats, gotta remember that.

I am a big fan of Dean Radford's tag-team partner. Have you seen him wrestle, or are you just fond of the name?
