Regal VS Dean Malenko. It's about an 8 min. match but still good. www.dailymotion.com/video/xpzmx_lord-steven-regal-vs-dean-malenko I was talking to a buddy a while back about the Pure Title. I felt it was more like "The Rope break title" than Pure Title. Especially when Jay Lethal and Joe won it. They're good wrestlers, but not exactly pure wrestlers. I consider Pure Wrestling a match without Punches to the head, fighting outside the ring, and Diving off the tope rope. All 3 elements can be used to hide poor technical ability and ring psychology(Although a good wrestler can incorporate them appropriately). My friend said a match withouty those 3 elements would be boring, but The match linked above is a good match that does not use those 3 elements. I honestly think a Pure title could exist and distance itself from a traditional title, if head punches, diving off the top rope(cept when doing moves like superplexes), and fighting outside the ring(including Planchas). That rope break stuff, and 20 count did lil' to seperate itself from regular pro wrestling. Any thought/comments?

Wow...that was the greatest night in the history of our sport. But serously, that was highly entertaining. A great early-to-midcard match. No big spots, no high-impact moves. Just wrestling for a pin. Not trying to hurt your opponent, just get him to the mat for a 3 or submission. Try to keep them in the middle, avoid Irish whips to keep the pace slower. It was a really good match.
And if Larry Zbyszco is still able to do that kind of commentary, imagine him replacing Lawler and teaming up with JR on Raw. Not great, but solid in the mix of legit analyzing (the full nelson is best on the ground, but notice how Regal fails to get the right leverage for full effect) with heelishness (what kind of paranoiac are you?). Great stuff.
Edit: and yeah, the Pure title would work better if top rope moves were banned. I'd also like to see a MMA/wrestling kind of response to rope breaks where the two competitors would be returned to the center of the ring in up/down or back/guard positions. You'd see aerial moves at most like a 2nd rope elbow/fist/knee as a setup. That would be interesting.

I think its an interesting idea as a niche title.
However, i don't like the guys being limited to what they can do in a match.
Hypothetically, a couple of guys can have a very technical match, just as good as a pure match, but also add in punches and planchas that make it more exciting. This could be better than a Pure title match, where the guys are limited.
I just think that i'd always rather watch a normal match where anything can happen, than a match where rules are strictly reinforced.

In my opinion, the Danielson/Nigel matches are the best "pure" wrestling I've seen on a professional wrestling stage in years.

Holy crap! That's one of the greatest matches I've ever seen, technical or not. It is a damn shame that WCW stopped airing part of the match due to a commercial break.
Thanks so much for the link!

My point, and the point of the other posters (I have to assume) is that the ROH Pure title didn't have to go away. It could be tweaked, just like the Code of Honor was. It would be something for guys to fight for. I know that I'm not at that top level yet, but if I can prove that my wrestling technique is top-shelf, then I can keep getting booked and make more money, eventually working to the top of the card. You know, a legit midcard title instead of a novelty act, a title that asks certain things of the wrestlers.
