God I remember back in WWF Attitude how freaking awesome Faarooq was. In Rumbles, his overhead belly-to-belly could throw people out from the middle of the ring, and his reverse STF was an automatic submission even in yellow. I loved being Ron Simmons in games. Damn.

I havent bought a wrestling game since Smackdown HCTP, but I used to go a created wrestler almost all the time. Rock was always good too because you could hit that DDT from nowhere.

Worst : Rick Fuller in WCW Thunder. Best : Reiko Hinomoto in Rumble Roses. She's not real, and she's just animated boobs, but she has Look to the Sky as her theme. She also seems to be the only character in the game who favors grapples over panty-shot style submission holds. Dude, I enjoyed the hell out of Rumble Roses. I'd still play it if my PS2 worked right. And Makoto Aihara was all business. None of her moves were all "teh hawtness." She just beat the f*** out of people. And she was cute.

Garrison Cade in Smackdown v Raw. Wait... does that mean he's good or bad? I MUST KNOW!

AKI man in revenge
And also Jericho and Saturn in revenge, you couldn't escape their submissions and Saturn's DVD was deadly as a normal move

Best: Goldberg in WCW Thunder. You could just spear guys all match and then hit the jackhammer and just lambaste people.
Worst: Either Brutus Beefcake or Andre the Giant, WWF Wrestlemania Challenge for the NES. Beefcake was so slow, the Great Khali looks like a speedster by comparison and Andre's so huge that if you fall out of the ring, you can't get back in.

Best: 1. Great Khali in SvR 2007. A ridiculous monster, just like in real life. 2. Chris Benoit in Smackdown 2. I KILLED everyone in my dorm with the Crippler's double German suplex. That's right, double. 3. Earthquake in Wrestlefest/Wrestlemania. I owned the local 7-11 with the big 'Quake. Rest in peace, big man.
Worst: Every single "Diva" that takes the place of an actual, factual wrestler.

Worst: Every woman in the Smackdown Vs. RAW Series. For some reason, they all suck. Every single one. Best: Ultimate Warrior in WWF Wrestlemania Challenge. He had the press slam that could throw people out of the ring. And once Andre was out of the ring, he couldn't get back in. Honorable mention: Starman from Pro Wrestling. Both his special moves were easily executed over and over again.

Angle in SD:Hctp. Power finisher AND submission finisher! Submission that can be done from a kick reversal! Back finsher so there's a slightly less chance of it being reversed

I also liked to run at an opponent and press reverse so that I'd be behind them and they'd be groggy. ANGLE SLAM! ANGLE SLAM! ANGLE SLAM!
And he also has the Buffalo Sleeper which is great for killing time.

Rob Van Dam is very good in all the SmackDown! games. And, Brock Lesnar was insanely powerful. Also, I had a lot of success as John Cena in SmackDown!: Here Comes The Pain and as Chris Jericho in WrestleMania 2000.
As for the worst, it would have to be the women in the SmackDown! games. Even the good female wrestlers aren't that great in the games. Why is that?

Triple H is always a solid choice, since the Pedigree is the most powerful finisher in the game.
I checked.
It does more total damage than the Burning Hammer and the FU.

Lesner was a complete beast in HCTP. But since his departure, Triple H has taken the god mode of the SmackDown series. Undertaker was also one of the harder ones to beat in HCTP.
As for worst, Daivari is insanely weak in the SDvR 2k7 series. As well as Eric Bischoff minus grapples in WCW/nWo Revenge.
Mayhem also gave us some strange roster choices like; Sonny Onoo, Doug Dillenger, Mean Gene Okerlund, Jimmy Hart, Prince Iaukea, Eric Bischoff, Bobby Duncum Jr., Ernest Miller, Horace Hogan, Kaz Hayashi, Kenny Kaos, Lizmark Jr., Steve McMichael, Lash LeRoux, Bobby Blaze, Boby Eaton, and Sergeant Buddy Lee Parker.
