I don't like it when people say "I mark for _____" to state that they like stuff when it's not wrestling related. The whole concept of "marking" for wrestling implies that you are buying into what you are seeing. As if to say that you liked a match so much, that you were able to temporarily suspend your belief and pretend that you are watching something that is a real competition. As such you became a "mark" for the wrestling match. So when asked what your favorite salad dressing is and someone says "I mark for Zesty Italian", it doesn't make sense to me. You have to suspend disbelief for Zesty Italian. Because it's actually...Bitter Greek! *I broke kayfabe. Sorry.

What's really fun is to use wrestling terms in non-wrestling situations. Like when your car breaks down you can say it jobbed. And when the guy with the tow truck comes to jumpstart it and it still won't start you can say it no sold the jumpstart. Like I said I find it hilarious when done outta humor. It's funny as f*** IMO. It's just when people try to sound smart doing it that I get annoyed. You sound like a hypocrite. I thought the same thing. i was to tired to write more than a sentence reply and I hate personally attacks. Though seriously, He talks about how stupid people are for acting smart by using wrestling terms. Than says they aren't because he knows more terms than them. Totally hypocritical.

I can't.
Flair needs to remember that it's not 1986 anymore.
Kayfabe is not what it once was.

I can't. Flair needs to remember that it's not 1986 anymore. Kayfabe is not what it once was. It's not the point. Approaching anyone and pretending to be informed about something that encompasses that person's life where you only have basic knowledge of the subject is irritating. Especially when most of this knowledge comes from a medium such as the internet, which is why Kayfabe isn't what it once was. Flair is oversensitive in this example though, "face/heel" isn't very intrusive, but it's not like it doesn't happen to other wrestlers all of the time.

In essence of the original question, I read a thread somewhere about a guy saying how great his girlfriend was because she said the word kayfabe, I just thought that was ridiculous.

This is a somewhat annoying trend, but for me, it is no where near as annoying as when someone uses the wrestlers real names. So pointless and geeky. I recall a time when reading a post on this board that someone did a list of their favorite wrestlers and listed all 10 by their real names. Congrats douche, you know their real names and have way too much damn time on your hands.

I'm pretty sure it was all a work. haha Actually that's why I made this thread. I have a buddy that talks about kayfabe with everything. Damn it get's annoying. I told him about this guy that was lying to his GF and thinking about confronting him or her about. He said it be wrong to break the guy's Kayfabe. My God. What the hell. He was serious too.

^ Excactly, I dont know anyone away from this board that says things like that. (Not taking anything away from here as its a wrestling site, its obviously allowed online,) Its just some members make threads that have to mention a girlfriend such as, hey look I have a girlfriend! & then mention something as daft as her breaking kayfabe or no-selling playfighting. Its a little embarrassing to be a wrestling fan after reading threads like that & how much people get into certain things.
Its like saying 'LOL' & 'OWNED' offline.

You sound like a hypocrite. I thought the same thing. Why am I a hypocrite? Because I used wrestling terms while stating how I don't like it when everyone bashes someone while using terms that apply to them? Whenever I post, I only use some of the terms, and I hardly ever, ever, bash someone to the moon. Hypocrite I am not, I try to make logical sense, while at the same time, have a little unbiased fun, and not piss anyone off. A hypocrite is someone that would post what I posted, but then go on a huge tyrade about someone, not me.

No. no no no no no no no. That's not what I meant. I don't go around acting like I know more terms than everyone, and I didn't say that people are stupid for using the terms, I don't go around calling people stupid. I was saying that you have people that will use the terms to bash say, Hogan, for "no workrate" or things like that, when I don't consider it justified. It had nothing to do with what I know or what I think I know. it was about how annoying I think it is to pretend to know about a wrestler's job and make all kinds of negative remarks. If I did that, then I would indeed be a hypocrite, but I don't. reguardless about anything I may have learned, I also realize that I shouldn't make all kinds of comments about things that I'm not sure of, a hypocrite wouldn't do that. just clearing that up.

Honestly. I like using wrestling slang, jokingly, but some people over do it. Such as,Kayfabe, work, shoot, work-shoot, stiff. heel, face, botch, brock, Dusty booking, spotfest, spot monkey....eh...here just look at all the crap here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Wrestling_Slang My point is over use of wrestling slang in a serious tone is annoying and make's you look somewhat moronic. Especially if you over use it in an attempt to look smart. that is all. discuss and such. Perhaps this thread will get me over, or at least give me heel heat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: An example of wrestling slang used in a douche bag manner. Dec 29, 2006, 7:54am, munter wrote:Jesus. Where do these threads come from? People just make them to get themselves over. to create a little internet following for themselves. Like, they're enlightening the rest of us. Jesus This guy was serious. keep talking like that and im gonna stiff on you, you botch-infested spot monkey hoss. honestly, what is it with marks these days. oh yeah, and i know someone who actually uses the following in normal conversations: OMG LOL TEH SUXXORZ/ROXXORZ ROFL FU STFU among others.

I tend to use "Botch" on a daily basis.
I tend to use "No-sell" when describing something legit tough... A la Perry Satrun no-selling three bullets to the neck.
And I am also guilty of getting shitty with my co workers when they kiss ass, for "putting themselves over".
As for using wrestlers real names... The funny thing is, most workers call each other by a nickname derivitave of their stage alias.

No-sell is a lil' to far out there. It's okay to to use "sell" in most situations. as in "That's a pretty tough sell" or "that's pretty hard to sell".
