Question about Wrestler's "Seconds"

I know it sounds confusing, but I'm talking about like at WM when Jimmy Snuka and Bob Orton were "Seconds" for Hogan and Piper's team respectively-The way i took it is if something happened to a team member, they would take their place in the match-has there been a case that you remember where the "second" actually had to come in and finish the match for someone?

The closest thing I can think of is Marc Mero coming in to face HHH for Mr. Perfect (even though that was a setup all along) but I know thats not exactly what you're asking. I thought they were just basically glorified managers, but you dont see this so much anymore. Used to be big in the old days, like I remember the Hogan vs Earthquake SummerSlam main event where Big Bossman (or was it Tugboat?) and Dino Bravo were in Hogan and 'Quake's corners respectively.

And I'm sorry but it has to be said: Wrestlers 'seconds'? Ask Edge about those.

Orton and Snuka were managers for their respective teams at WM1.

I was pretty sure they referred to them as "seconds" I'll have to check out the tape again, but I have heard this term used before-though rarely it seems.

Snuka and Orton were involved enough that this coulda been a 6 man match, but they weren't really needed in it, what with Cowboy Bob's bad arm and all

So i'm almost certain they were called "seconds"
