One of my favorites, I would really like to see this gimmick come back.

I loved the Waylon Mercy character. Spivey played it perfectly. Sadly, he was already pretty much done physically by the time WWF hired him(not that spivey was ever particularly gifted in the ring when he was physically capable)I thought Waylon would've done well to be a manager and recruit followers, so that we still got the great character, but didn't have to watch the atrocious ring work.

What exactly was his character? A sort of laid-back guy who could snap at any time. He kinda had 2 personalities, like how he would wear a nice Hawaiian shirt but have a symbol of a dagger on his forehead.

He had a decent match with Savio Vega on one of the early In Your House PPV's (worth checking out for one of the most brutal brainbusters I have ever seen). I remember wondering why he lost so soon after his debut, then years later found out that the Golden Boy's knees were shot to s***. A real shame, Spivey played this character to absolute perfection. EDIT : Just realised that this match is the clip in the first post.

Can't support a guy named Waylon, sorry.

What exactly was his character? Imagine a wrestling version of Robert Mitchum in the original Cape Fear.

He had a decent match with Savio Vega on one of the early In Your House PPV's (worth checking out for one of the most brutal brainbusters I have ever seen). I've been under the impression that the brainbuster was actually a botched suplex due to his bad knees. Listen to the surprise in Jim Ross' voice when it happens. It's like JR knew it wasn't supposed to happen that way. I believe that Waylon botches another move later on in the match, and JR actually references Waylon's knees.

Waylon Mercy was awesome. He was a character that could have existed in the Attitude era, yet there he was in 1995 a few years ahead of his time.
