I attended last night's Rumble, here are some quick notes:
- I missed the dark match, didn't lose any sleep over it.
- The opener was okay to me, as I felt it could have been better.
- I took my snack break immediately after the opener, and didn't come back until the entrances of Batista vs. Kennedy; again, I lost no sleep over missing out on that Lashley vs. Test classic.
- Batista vs. Kennedy exceeded my expectations, thanks to the leg work psychology. Kennedy got some good chants for awhile. If Batista uses psychology on a frequent basis like he did last night, perhaps he won't be so damn boring like he's been over the past year.
- Cena vs. Umaga was EASILY match of the night. Everyone's said their piece about this classic, all I can say is that the live atmosphere was INCREDIBLE, and it's what professional wrestling is all about.
- I found the Rumble to be good, but disappointing. I felt it was missing that extra spark to make it truly memorable. Khali eliminating Punk and Benoit sure didn't make my enjoyment of the match go up either. Also, I expected a REAL Undertaker entrance (ie, one that lasts at least a minute.) Speaking of Taker, I had no problem with him winning, and I have nothing but respect for him and HBK, but 1997 called and asked for WWE to start trying to give the rub to some new blood. Why couldn't Punk or Carlito be the runner-up instead of Taker, then they could have gotten the rub for almost taking down the legendary Undertaker? Lastly, why were the intervals so damn short?
Overall, it was a fun show, but maybe my expectations are too high when I pay over $100 for my friend and I to attend. I felt certain parts of the show could have been better, but I guess that's what happens when a company leaves so much to the last minute. Oh well, it was certainly better than the other PPV I attended (Taboo Tuesday 2004 in Milwaukee.)

If no one's mentioned it, I believe that Taker is the first man to draw number 30 and win the Rumble.

Couple questions:
How was the live crowd outside of Cena / Umaga matchup? I remember San Antonio being a real "hot" spot at the Freeman Coliseum for a while and the atmosphere there at Survivor Series 1994 seemed to be awesome on tape.
Do you know who wrestled in the dark match even though you didn't watch it? Just curious who wasn't good enough to make it into the Rumble match itself.
When did the event end? I remember following it on the computer and the Rumble match being over at 10:40EST, leaving another 20 minutes or so left. I kept thinking it would end short after the Batista and Lashley matches being so short in length, but not 20 min short.
Also, $100 is not a bad price for two tickets at a WWE PPV event, even in the upper levels. I certainly would pay $50 a ticket to attend "most" WWE PPV's.
Lastly, go Spurs!!

The live crowd was awesome all night. The dark match was Cryme Tyme vs. Cade & Murdoch. Yeah, I bet you're said that you missed out on that classic too. The event ended about 15 or 20 minute early. Makes me wonder why we didn't get longer intervals to build up the drama. When you've been exposed to some of the great action that I've been exposed to for a fraction of the price of last night's show, your expectations naturally go up.

The Rumble was missing surprise wrestlers. Why did they bring the Hardys and Johnny Nitro back when they could have brought in Golddust or, say, Duke The Dumpster Drossey?

The WWE is not interested in bringing in cartoonish characters to put on TV and job them out. The WWE is only interested in showcasing talented, young grapplers who can please an audience through their athletic talents only.

I greatly dislike those segments at the end of Rumbles and battle royals where the last 2 or 3 people get a match-long segment to close out the match.

To answer original posters question, i'm thinking that Undertaker and Micheals are still winning because the crowd lap it up. People buy Undertaker and Micheals shirts and, like them or not, only have a few years of that huge drawing power in them.
Carlito and Punk will hopefully shine in the future, but, with Micheals and Undertaker still able to go strong, why not leave them to it and enjoy it for the Undertaker mark out moment it is.

Complaining about Carlito or Punk not ending with 'Taker...give me a break, we ALL would have known the winner then...
