-Reports within WWE say management wants the winner of the Royal Rumble to be an absolute shock, so don't expect to see the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels (despite the event being held in his hometown) or even Randy Orton get the nudge.
Apparently, Vince McMahon has very high regards in working on the ECW brand in making it as strong as both Raw and Smackdown. By doing so, Vince has expressed feelings of having an ECW competitor go over this Sunday. Right now, McMahon is leaning towards CM Punk, who would come off as both a shock, and a surprise. At this point, management doesn't feel anyone is as over with the crowd, with the exception of RVD, who has a very slim chance of gaining another major push in WWE anytime soon. Marcus Cor Von (Monty Brown) was brought up several times as a possible contender for the ECW Title, but many feel he isn't in any position to win the Royal Rumble match, and he is expected to have a lengthy build-up to WrestleMania.
Even with CM Punk getting the unexpected Rumble win, the ECW Title match isn't expected to go on as the main event at WrestleMania, but would more than likely be apart of a triple main event scenario. The plan right now is to have a fatal 4 way match with Lashley, Test, Cor Von, and Punk.

I really don't expect Punk to win the Rumble but if he, did I'd mark out like never before.

Well, the winner didn't get the main event last year either. So that wouldn't surprise me.

I'd mark like crazy if Punk won, but I don't see that happening at all. He'll probably make it to the final 4 at the most, but that's it.

I'd like it to be someone outside of the Good Old Boys Club.
Maybe it will be Khali or something.

First off, I don't believe that Punk or any other ECW "extremist" is going to win the Rumble for the simple fact that the Rumble winner gets to "main event" WM. Let's face it, the ECW title match will not be the "main event" of WM, and I don't believe that Vince and co. will have Punk or any other "extremist" in the RAW or Smackdown title situation, even if they do want to make ECW as strong as RAW & Smackdown. Don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't mind seeing this type of swerve, but I just think it has a less than 1% chance of happening.
The other interesting thing about the article was the mention of a fatal-4 ECW title match. If that were to be true, I don't think that the WWE will have two fatal-4 title matches on the same card, so that leaves the Cena vs Orton vs HBK vs Edge rumor out in the cold.

It's interesting, all this news about Punk being buried and criticized left and right backstage, now this. I have no idea what to believe, which is probably for the best. Now I'll just watch and enjoy and see what happens.

Am I the only one sensing a little smark bait with this and the other stories floating around? Hell, I'll back flip off of my house and be chanting his name all during RAW Monday if it happens but, I can't help be a little skeptical.
