The WWE have two flagship brands, (let's not kid ourselves and count ECW), yet they're almost completely different in the way they are produced.
Raw is more of a "storyline" based show, with skits and interviews and backstage segments and stuff like that, whilst Smackdown is almost 100% wrestling (or has been for a good while, anyway).
Aren't the shows made by the same people? If it's all down to writers, why is Raw the show that gets the likes of Pipers Pit, Rosie V Trump and all the DX fluff and Smackdown is, just, by and large, wrestling and little else except the odd storyline progressing interview?

It lies in the writing staff really, On SD you have Michael Hayes and Dusty Rhodes, on Raw you have people that couldn't cut it in hollywood.

I see it like Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble.
(Follow me on this...)
Fred (RAW) has a lot of convoluted storylines with continuity problems but the best intentions and it usually ends up a mess and Fred (RAW) has to explain to Wilma (Vince McMahon) how he screwed up.
Barney (Smackdown) is a simple, charming little event that works it way through life entertaining others but if viewed closely, makes little more sense than Fred (RAW), but the two make a potent pair and are palatable television viewing.
I'd share my George Jetson (TNA) theory, but this is a WWE board, so I'll let that one slide to the side.

Smackdown is way better then Raw, I can't even get through a full episode of Raw anymore, and I used to be able to get through an epispode of Raw, now I just pop in the Ultraman Season 1, Volume 1 I recently got. The commentary is better on Smackdown and the Wrestling content is better on Smackdown,
