Current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell made an appearance on Bubba The Love Sponge this morning on Sirius Satellite Radio. During the show, Bubba played a clip of Kurt Angle saying he could beat Chuck in an MMA match. Liddell said Angle is not used to getting hit for real and that he would hit him hard. He added that Angle would have no idea what that would be like. When Bubba asked Liddell if a fight with Angle would outdraw Liddell/Tito Ortiz, he said he had no idea and guessed that Angle has a huge fan base from his WWE days. According to those who listened, Liddell didn't take the comments by Angle seriously and tried to avoid talking more about it.

I share his opinion, and honestly I don't think Angle would be a big name in the UFC if he started doing MMA now.

Liddell would break Angle's big ol' head like a melon.

If Angle stepped in there with Liddell, with his physical condition the way it's been for years now, it would be ugly.

I think Angle would have been very good if he went into MMA directly or shortly after the Olympics. He's a world class, GOLD MEDALIST wrestler, but if he went into it now without much stand up experience or submission defense he wouldn't go anywhere. Wrestling is a great addition to a fighter's arsenal, but without being at least a little rounded you will go no where. With all the time he has spent NOT training for MMA and all the abuse he has taken in pro-wrestling, I doubt he would make it too far in MMA. Don't count him out completely, though.

I think it could be a decent fight, though I am also of the opinion that Chuck Liddell is an overrated bum.

I would count him out completely major bullseye is the neck, and his body is broken down from his own admission. hell i don't think he could pass the drug screening. If this was UFC back in '94 or '96 sure Kurt could dominate, but he would be in there with one dimensional fighters who were out of shape, lacked an iron chin, and were basically cans.

Not like the super in shape studs they have fighting for them today...

What makes Chuck think he could even get the chance to punch Kurt in the face? I think if Kurt gets his timing down, he could have him wrapped up and tapped out in the first minute

For Kurt's sake, I hope he's working everyone and has no intention of doing MMA. Honestly, Tank Abbott could probably take out Kurt Angle no problem.

Angle is past his physical prime and his body took a major beating in his WWE-days. If he had started MMA shortly after leaving wrestling he could've been a major force, and I'm sure he could still smoke most MMA-guys, but I doubt he could handle the elite fighters.

Anyone who thinks Angle would stand a chance against Liddell is the mark to end all marks.

Kurt would get his block knocked off. Perhaps UFC could open a "deluded wrestler" division.

If Angle got choked out by someone at this point, there's a good chance it could end up paralyzing him.
Particularly a guillotine choke since that puts extra strain on the spine.

Anyone who thinks Angle would stand a chance against Liddell is the mark to end all marks. While Liddell has a great sprawl if somebody can get him down it is Angle, but the big question is what Kurt could do from there. I just don't see Kurt having the experience to finish Chuck, and if you give Chuck time eventually you get KTFO. I'd give Angle a slim chance, probably along the lines of getting Liddell down and slipping-in a cut-opening elbow.

Angle could just pound Liddell into submission. It worked for Rampage.

If Angle were to get Liddell on the ground, he'd have a great chance of winning. Trouble is, like others here have pointed out, Liddell has fantastic takedown defense. And I really can't picture Kurt putting up much of a fight standing up, especially against a guy who basically has riot guns for fists.
