Well guys I just wanted to let you know that I've finally finished the Punk/Joe matches from ROH. I just finished watching All Star Extravaganza 2, and it was a great show. One of the parts I didn't like about the Joe/Punk match was when Joe put his foot on the ropes, but my mind changed when I saw how much heat it got from the crowd. Although I came close into giving this one a 5 star match, I don't think it was as great as Joe/Punk2. I think it is great how both men built up the ROH title in these series of matches. I'm just glad to say I have all 3. What were your guys thoughts on this match at ASE2? I know what you all think about Joe/Punk 2, and World title classic. But what did you think of this match? How do you rank it compare to the other 2 matches?
Looking forward to hearing what all of you think.

On the SSS, Joe says that the foot on the ropes thing was Steamboat's idea. Most everything from the first choke on was Steamboat and it was greatness. Joe and Punk hated the foot-on-the-ropes thing at first but then later loved it.

I LOVED the way they talked about that spot in the shoot interview. "We were like, 'You crazy old man, you know not of what you speak!' And then an hour later, we talked again and said, 'That is the best idea I've ever heard!"
Seriously, the impact and meaning of that one little gesture is amazing. Joe NEVER, EVER, EVER cheated, ever...and he was willing to put his feet on the ropes to put Punk down. Truly breathtaking.

I have this really annoying habit of only watching shows in order. I've had All Star Extravaganza 2 sitting here for almost a month now. But I have shows from 03-04 to watch first. About 4 or 5. I've only seen a portion of the match, but loved what I saw. I'll get around to it ... eventually.

What is the Joe vs Punk match where a Punk fan was reeeeeeeally heckling Joe, and then when Punk went over to the fan and he got all excited, Punk turned away and got a good laugh from the crowd?

I've only seen a portion of the match, but loved what I saw. I'll get around to it ... eventually. You see, I can't watch Final Battle 2004 yet, until I've seen the other 04 shows I need. The only reason I went ahead, and watched ASE2 was because I wanted to watch my Punk/Joe Shoot all the way through, and they talked about the match in the SS video. And, when I found out that was SteamBoat that wanted to do that spot, I was kind of surprised. So to MGH, if I ruined this match for you, I'm sorry. But man, your going to enjoy it whenever you get to it. I still need to watch 8 shows from 04, before I can watch FB04. This $10 sale really needs to hurry up and get here.

Look at it this way: I didn't watch Final Battle 2004 until I had the ENTIRE Samoa Joe title reign on DVD. That took me awhile.
The spot with Joe putting his feet on the ropes is one of my absolute favorite moments ever. I don't think I've ever seen a better spot to get over just how draining a certain opponent is for a given champion, given how Joe and Punk's characters were built going into it.
It's easy to forget, two and a half years later, just how brilliant those matches were, and are. I can't see them aging badly at all.

I don't know why, but I HATE watching these shows out of order. Even if I have two shows that are 5 months apart, I have to watch the one that came first. Probably explains why I've had The Final Showdown sitting here for what seems like an eternity. And with another $10 sale coming up .... oh boy

You crazy old man, you know not of what you speak! You obviously don't even watch the shows."

As a new school roh fan, can someone in the know give me a synopsis of the Joe Punk fued. Basically what it was all about, how many matches they had and on what cards. Ive heard great things about their fued and would like to know more about it....thanks in advance. Nothing more to it than simple, old-school world title booking. Joe as champion for over a year, Punk as one of the biggest top-card challengers thanks to the departure of Daniels and Styles. Their first match ended in a one-hour draw. Punk worked slowly and methodically, wearing out Joe and testing his endurance with an unrelenting series of reversals into headlocks. Punk attempted to win the match with a sleeper to Joe's worn-down carotid artery area, but Joe managed to survive. Joe didn't manage to hit the Muscle Buster, and Punk fell out of the ring following a Pepsi Plunge, leaving him unable to capitalize. The second match was another draw. Easily the most fast-paced hour-long match I've ever seen. Punk added arm work and a series of rollups to his headlock strategy, which Joe gradually figured out how to counter. Crowd reaction was off the charts, especially with the final stretch of Joe hitting the Avalanche Muscle Buster just as the time limit expired. Third match was done with no time limit. Joe was now easily capable of blocking the headlock strategy, so Punk went for a more aggressive approach. Joe turned up his own aggressiveness and busted Punk open. The blood loss took Punk's endurance out of the equation, and Joe got desperate at the end as they traded nearfalls. Joe finally emerged the victor. As far as storyline, it wasn't much. Just some really well-wrestled matches with a ton of in-ring story and progression.

World Title Classic(this is either the first or third match,I think) Joe vs. Punk 2, and All Star Extravaganda 2(?), I think.

Midnight Express Reunion has Punk calling out Joe for the first rematch, and Weekend of Thunder: Night Two has him calling him out (along with Mick Foley) for the second one.
