Ok, I'm not a WWE mark. And I'm not an indy mark. I watch what I want and like what I like. And sometimes it means not watching any wrestling for years on end.
Anyway...I have a question for you guys. I know everyone shits down the throat of WWE and TNA for their crappy sense of humor (WWE moreso than TNA), yet some of you guys around here love that one promotion in Japan where everyone is a Ninja Turtle rip off or a horse. And you like that CP Bunny and Colt Banana or whatever it is. How could you complain about WWE and TNA having shitty humor (like McMahon vs Trump and Big Fat Oily Guy) and then go about watching grown men in horse costumes that do things that try just as bad as what the national guys put out.
Just a random thought. I know I'll get flamed to high hell for this, but it does annoy me. Especially if people consider WWECW wrestlcrap but those guys aren't. To me, those guys should be the definition of WrestleCrap.

Because HUSTLE and Chikara are actually... funny? Regardless of the type of humor it is, it can still be done badly, and it can be done well. Chikara and HUSTLE do it well, WWE, and TNA do it badly. Moreover, Chikara's guys in suits can freakin' work. WWE's Big Dick Johnson or Donald Trump cannot say the same. Honestly, I prefer Chikara to anything TNA or WWE have done in the past 2 or 3 years. I can't speak for HUSTLE because my main exposure to it has been through short youtube videos.

CP Munk and Colt Cabunny was in CHIKARA in America. CHIKARA has it's fair share of comedy and wasn't stupid.
HUSTLE in Japan is awesome becuase it's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN THAT SERIOUSLY. It's booked so that it doesn't insult our intelligence. It pretty much says "we are a soap opera" so we can watch without being a negative nancy.
They do gimmicks for fun and in the end, have good matches. The theme is "pro wrestling opera". WWE has their formula and it doesn't click with alot of fans like us. HUSTLE is what WWE should be in a sense in terms of gimmicky stuff.
And most importantly, CONTEXT. You can't judge something properly until you've seen it. Obviously you haven't seen some of it and are judging it before you see it. Watching something is better than reading about it.
You can have the worst gimmick ever on paper, but if done properly and booked well, it'll get over. Likewise if you have the best gimmick ever on paper but if not done properly and booked badly, it'll suck.

That's the really important thing to keep in mind.

Eh, I don't watch Wrestling as a comedy. I mean I like some comedic sketches in it, but the pictures I've seen from those products don't interest me in the least. It seems like some low-class Adult Swim in-house cartoon, like Assy McGee or Tom Goes to the Mayor. It's not my type of humor.
To each his own, but I still think that those promotions rank right up there in stupidity as Mae Young giving birth to a hand. To think that that was supposed to be taken seriously is stretching it.

I hate when people say Crapty instead of crappy.
it's not Crapty..Crapt is the past tense of Crap.
So Crapty doesn't make sense.

I myself haven't seen a full CHIKARA event but I've seen a full HUSTLE event (recently HUSTLEmania 2006) Once you watch it for five minutes, you say "I can't take this seriously" because you really can't. It's not designed too. It's OPERA in without the singing (sometimes).
And to boot, they have some really great established wrestlers like Kawada, Tenryu, Ogawa, Ohtani, 3D, TAJIRI, Corino, Amazing Kong, Aja Kong, Masato Tanaka, Takada who have paid their dues big time and are now having fun in the latter years of their career while still having good matches. They have celebrities like Yinling and HG who do well in their roles and do know how to wrestle and respect it (wrestling is a sport in Japan, covered in newspapers like baseball) and use their gimmicks to put on good matches.
WWE tries to mix realism and melodrama, but doesn't have the characters to have a full package and when they shift more towards melodrama, the realism is lost. Plus, their wrestlers aren't as good and with their schedule and style, can't have many exciting matches. Some guys pull it off, but most can't.
HUSTLE says "screw the realism" and presents a melodrama which has NEVER been done in Japan before and has enough backing from Dreamstage to present a great product to the family. Try to tell me WWE is family entertainment.

It's when you put the "s" word in. It's ("s"word)ty that gets censored to crapty.

There you go. You've seen pictures, not videos. Seriously, watch some You Tube videos of it with an open mind and then come back and make your point. It's vague to be saying it's the worse thing ever if youve only seen PICTURES. Do you judge a movei by seeing pictures of it. No, that's ridiculous. Same here. I'm not saying your going to love it or like it. I'm just saying check it out before hating on it. If you still hate it after you watch it, fine, not going to argue that with you. To each his own.

Sometimes you should....the last two movies I've seen (The Number 23, Ghost Rider) looked better. Off that tangent, I guess I'm just mad at people who moan and cry about how much WrestleCrap is in WWECW such as Nacho Libre but can love the same kind of thing when it's done somewhere else. I assure you if half the stuff in CHIKARA and HUSTLE were in WWE people would want them inducted in a heartbeat. If Nacho Libre was in HUSTLE, people wouldn't crap all over it like they do with it being in ECW. I just feel like theres some kind of double standard when it comes to this stuff. I would take an induction from CHIKARA like those Mario guys over an induction on WWECW, it seems far more worthy to induct and claim as 'Crap than the entire promotion of WWECW, especially when it's not all bad. In case you can't tell, I was going to post this in another thread, but I wanted to address it to everyone who watches this stuff.

CONTEXT When WWE does comedy/melodrama, it's usually pointless and doesn't help which way the product is going, It's usually done for Vince's personal amusement and done half-assed. Melodrama is the selling point in HUSTLE. IMO It's done well, doesn't insult my intelligence, and genuinely funny. It's their deal. HUSTLE doesn't offend my religion, my race, my personal beliefs or the way I live my life. It a live wrestling theater. If I can suspend my disbelief for wrestling, I can suspend my disbelief for melodrama without getting offended or having my intelligence insulted.
