I was just thinking of him the other day. Man, what a wasted talent. I hope he's alright.

I did a yahoo search and found nothing, I dunno why people make up crap like this, especially friends, who either make it up, or get their notes so completely mixed up, you wonder if some random guy named Mike killed himself-not to call your friend a liar, but news travels so fast these days, it would be everywhere by now, including the E's website

Yeah I really hope this isn't true. I hate these death hoaxes. There was a Vader one a couple years ago that got me.

Its true: www.gerweck.net/news/1171914818.shtmlAccording to Dave Meltzer, former ECW world champion Mike Awesome, 41, has passed away. His real name was Mike Alfonso. According to reports, Awesome was found dead on Saturday mornining in the Tampa Area. In addition to working in the U.S., he also worked for FMW in Japan. He will probably be most remembered as the ECW champion that signed with WCW when he still held the title. Tazz was brought in by WWE to take the title from him, as he jumped to WCW. Awesome announced his retirement from wrestling in early 2006. Wow. RIP. EDIT: Now its no longer on the front page but, the link still works (at least for me).

It was on Gerweck, but they pulled it. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet so I'm guessing this is unconfirmed.

www.wwe.com/inside/news/mikeawesomepassesWWE.com now. WWE is saddened by news of the passing of Mike Alfonso, better known to wrestling fans as Mike Awesome. He was 42. Mike Awesome's first major exposure came overseas, where he became one of the Japan's top stars. Awesome would eventually become a star and champion in America while wrestling for Extreme Championship Wrestling. Following his successful run in ECW, Awesome spent time working in WCW and later WWE before retiring to his native Tampa, Florida. While in ECW, Awesome was a two-time World Champion and Tag Team Champion. His matches with Masato Tanaka, including a show-stealer at One Night Stand in 2005 were among the most memorable in ECW history.

I just saw it on WWE.com. All the That 70's Guy/Fat Chick Thriller jokes aside. MIke Awesome was one of the great big men in this business. He flew from the top rope like a leightweight. He had an awesome (no pun intended) run in ECW.

Guess the rumors were true. This may be the first time I've ever seen a message board get the scoop before the legitimate news sites. I wish we'd been wrong, though.
Godspeed, Mike Awesome. Vaya con dios.
