Classic doing the airplane spin, dropping him, and the announcer doing a Monsoonism (tossing him like yesterday's newspaper), is a great little sequence.

They had WSX on at the gym tonight, and despite there not being any sound, the Matt Classic promo was one of the best things I've seen in ages.

Eh, 2001 had that video with the Kid Rock song and the great moments and stuff. I think that's just a little better than the Gotch/Thesz/guy I can't remember name drop. Although I did enjoy the Matt Classic hype video. My brother seemed to like it, too. |

I cannot praise this gimmick enough, nor Mr. Cabana, who is an absolute riot and has it down pat. "Matt Classic," to me, is evidence that the people behind WSX did their homework. The gimmick is basically an inside joke for longtime fans and smarks, but it also gets the point across that the show is trying to differentiate that style from it's fast-paced, spot-based style. It will appeal to the smarks AND the new fans it might draw in. The people behind WSX were counting on luring the smarks; it has comedy value for us, and they knew some of us would like it precisely because of its over-the-top silliness (the explosions, camera rattling, that crackhead ring announcer, etc.) Meanwhile, younger, newer fans may actually find that stuff thrilling. Say what you will about the show, but at least it's something different. I'm sold. |

This gimmick is going to be so awesome, no one in WSX and at MTV is going to get it. Knowing that Colt's under the hood makes it that much better. Finally, I have a reason to watch WSX again. |
