Muraco was one of the biggest villains in wrestling, but I can't recall how he turned face in 1987, anyone remember?

It was the tye-dye shirts. Instant face.

Plus him and Orton were having dissension after going on a losing streak post-WM3, but I don't remember the actual show when they split up.

Think they just hooked him up with Superstar Graham.

I just saw a vid on youtube, Muraco vs. Orton-Jesse even seemed puzzled as to what happened

Didn't somebody try to beat Graham down, and Muraco made the random save?

That was One Man Gang and Butch Reed, Superstar Billy Graham was originally supposed to be on Hogan's team at Survivor Series, but was taken out by Reed/Gang, and Muraco made the save, but Muraco was already face by this time, this just cemented it.

Give me 5 minutes.........
Prime Time Wrestling -5/25/87: Jim Powers & Paul Roma defeated Bob Orton Jr. & Don Muraco at 10:31 when Roma pinned Orton after Muraco accidentally reversed a small package, putting Roma on top of Orton for the pin; after the bout, Muraco & Orton attacked their opponents
Providence, RI House Show 6/13/87 - Rick Martel & Tom Zenk defeated Don Muraco & Bob Orton Jr.; after the bout, Muraco and Orton began fighting with each other
Wrestling Challenge 6/14/87 - Hillbilly Jim, SD Jones, & Billy Jack Haynes defeated Iron Mike Sharpe, Bob Orton Jr., & Don Muraco at 3:25 after Muraco accidentally hit Orton
Los Angeles House Show 7/4/87 - Don Muraco & Bob Orton Jr. defeated Jerry Allen & Steve Gatorwolf; after the bout, Orton & Muraco argued
7/9/87 - Muraco and Orton face off in several matches over the next few days that end in Double DQs
WWF Superstars 7/18/87 - The Junkyard Dog, Hillbilly Jim, & Billy Jack Haynes defeated Don Muraco, Bob Orton Jr., & Ron Bass via count-out at 2:53 when Orton & Muraco began pushing one another on the floor
July 25th Baltimore House show - Muraco defeats Orton in a one on one match
Prime Time Wrestling - 7/27/87: Tito Santana pinned Don Muraco (sub. for Butch Reed) at 8:22 with a sunset flip out of the corner; after the bout, and against the wishes of Bob Orton Jr. who came ringside after the bout, Muraco shook Santana's hand for being the better man; Orton then left ringside disgusted while Muraco soon followed as the two continued to argue
WWF Superstars 8/8/87 - Tito Santana, the Junkyard Dog, & Hillbilly Jim defeated Don Muraco, Bob Orton Jr., & Joe Mirto when Santana pinned Muraco at 3:02 after Orton pushed Muraco over as he attempted to do Orton’s superplex, with Santana falling on top after Orton had earlier attempted Muraco’s tombstone; after the bout, Muraco and Orton fought into the crowd.
WWF Superstars 8/22/87 - Update segment featuring the split of Orton and Muraco
That's about it really. All throughout August they kept losing tag matches and fighting each other afterwards then eventually they began facing each other with Muraco always winning. The final blow up was in that 6 man tag.
