I was just thinking about the 30 Day rule for champions in the WWE. Are we supposed to forget it exists?
For example:
Cena and Michaels are tag champs, yet I don't think they've defended the belts once. With No Way Out coming up and then Wrestlemania, I don't see the belts being defended for a long while.
It's not just them either.
Benoit hasn't defended the US strap since Chavo.
The Spirit Squad went months without defending the tag belts.
And does anyone remember when Show had the US title for like 9 months and defended it once, when he lost it to Cena?
Speaking of Cena, he rarely defended the US belt either.
So again I ask. Were we supposed to forget?

It's one of those things that we're only supposed to remember when it's convenient for storyline purposes nowadays. Otherwise, it doesn't exist.

30 Day rule hasn't meant squat since nWo Hogan won the WCW Title. Or if you want WWE, since Steph won the Women's title.

House shows count!
But yeah, they ignore this rule. I don't recall it being referenced in several years.

What about when Trish was woman's champ, got injured and was gone for a couple of months, but was still champ.

Gregory Helms is the most flagrant violator of the rule.

Gregory Helms is the most flagrant violator of the rule. Gregory Helms had a belt?

True about Trish and Helms. "The Longest Reigning Champion in WRESTLING, I refuse to say SE, Today." Real easy when you never defend the damn thing.
As for House Shows, the WWE has always maintained, unless it suited them otherwise, that if it didn't happen on TV then it didn't happen. I don't think they count.

Personally I think that the hack "Never saw a wrestling match in his life until he got the job" writer Gerwitz doesn't know about the rule and no one has bothered to tell him. Hayes, should know better though.

Trish's was the worst, she got hurt and just was gone for many months.
"Ah screw it, no one cares."

Not to mention when Shawn "didn't fail" that drug test, they used the 30 day rule.
