Some people blame the wrestlers while others blame creative. There is management(Johny Ace and Vince) that gets the blame from many of the smarks. I think its a combination of things. If the current product was to be overhauled starting with small steps then I believe scripting should be the first casualty. The roster can't be overhauled over night. So instead of firing talent, the decision makers at the E need to see what some of the talent on the roster bring to the table creatively. Wrestlers brought in since the year 2000 have had no reason to try to be creative. Everything is done for them in that department starting with their gimmick. Their lines are given to them and then they are limited to a specific moveset that meets their needs along with the agents. Its like a bunch of mass produced robots out there and its starting to show. Much like a movie production, talent that argues with the direction(wwe creative) will find themselves getting shortchanged. Actors that try to rewrite a movie will find themselves unemployed real quick unless they are among the elite. Austin, The Rock, Hogan , Flair, Triple H, HBK are the ones that excelled and I highly doubt any of them were given a tongue lashing for veering away from the script. What happens when the elite(who also happen to be older) move on. When will creative allow some of the newer guys to take control of their own characters? Maybe the new strategy in place is to script these guys from start to finish. If the product seems like mass produced garbage with the occassional bearable promo from a veteran right now, imagine what it will be like in 5 years?

thats a pretty good point, i don't think i've ever even thought of it like that. The rocks, austins, HHH's of the business definitely seem like the promos come naturally and they are just speaking their mind. Edge and Cena know how to do this too, but a lot of people do seem like their just straight up reading from a script, like Kenny, Lashley, Shelton. The "real" aspect of wrestling needs to be shown more.
Yeah, i pretty much repeated what you said, but i like it still

WWE needs to be put in a postion where, if they fail, they'll suffer drastic consequences. Right now they can fail all the time and easily recover. There's no real incentive for them to improve.

Quite obviously making CM Punk the first WHC, WWE and ECW Triple Crown Champ would shoot ratings up to a 11! Then, of course, push London and Kendrick to the moon, and put on hour long technical clinics with no storylines! And to top it all off, replace Ace/McMahon with the ROH crew!
Sadly, I feel like a bunch of people think that would actually work. But the OP is right. Most of these guys are f***ed up the ass when it's going to start counting. But they have the Hardy's and Edge to bail them out for now. I'm sure Cena does his own stuff too.

No one in this thread even suggested this so why do you feel the need to be a smartass?

Hell I can relate. Its just I see the Punk mocking a lot here, and I mean a lot. I never liked the whoel Punk is overrated therefore he sucks mentality. Its not his fault he got over with smarks which is the equivalent of anthrax to some people in th iwc.

Get the word McMahon off of my television. As well as his face, his hair, his wobble and all other parts of his physical being. And the rest of his family, to boot.

I would fire Giant hosses who can't do anything except a couple big man moves. (Khali, Batista, Cena etc.) and Vince and Johnny Ace. Hell all of the McMahons minus Shane. Maybe not Linda but I don't care. I'd put HHH and Shane in charge of it all and it would work out. I'd only allow HHH creative power if he quit wrestling by the way.
O yea I'd fire the bimbo Divas who can't wrestle. That would leave Jillian, Mickie, Melina, and Victoria.

The "real" aspect of wrestling needs to be shown more. Yeah, i pretty much repeated what you said, but i like it still I forgot to mention Edge and Cena. You can tell they aren't "on the script". It seems like only the reliable guys(veterans like HBK, HHH) get to do live promos in the ring anymore. If you are a script guy, all your mic work is done in backstage segments. Edge is given a talk segment(where you will fail will no ad-lib ability) and Cena is on the mic in the ring live every week. The only problem is how are any of these guys going to get better, if they don't get to touch a live mic? Remember Chris Masters in ring live promo a few weeks ago. The one where he had the "official" document declaring that the masterlock is still unbroken. Here is a guy that has been on Raw for almost 2 years and he is shaking visibly on camera. That is ridiculous and I'm not totally blaming Masters. When you rely on the words "cut" and "do it again" for so long, going live can be agonizing.

The notion that promos for many stars are scripted strongly explains why guys like Carlito are so unmotivated. Why take pride in what you do and try to raise the bar for your character and improve when someone else hands you a script and tells you what to do and how to do it. You become lazy b/c someone else does all the work and on top of that the drive to improve also goes away. It all makes sense.

Get rid of ECW altogether and just put the guys on there back on RAW and Smackdown. ECW is a dead horse trying to be brung back to life. If guys like that black dude that RVD had to put over and Kevin Thorn aren't "ready" to perform on Raw or SD simply send them to OVW until they are.
And yeah, helping the guys learn to cut thier own promos would be swell too.
