So, does anyone besides me think the whole Hall of Fame thing is kind of bogus? Its a nice gesture and all, but it being decided by one man who owns the company makes it not mean a whole lot to me. In fact, it really doesn't mean anything. I get the idea now that its more like a way to make money off of the old guys one last time, and hype up wrestlemania. It also seems like anyone who was ever well known will probably get it, which kills the prestige.
Would you do it differently to give it some actual meaning? I would open it up to at least a commitee, and give the fans a certain amount of power in their votes. That would at least make it somewhat of a popularity contest, and give it some meaning. The commitee could vote in guys like Buddy Rogers, who the fans might not know but is considered a great.
Also, the term hall of famer doesn't really work in wrestling, because there are no stats or anything, and its a fixed entertainment event. When someone asks the hall of famer question, I kind of chuckle because, well, what are the criteria exactly? There are none so, basically, if he made money and Vince likes/respects him, he could get in.
"Will he get inot the hall of fame?".........yeah, he worked for the company for quite a while and was popular, so yes.
I also don't think 6-10 inductions really helps things out either. Keep it to 4-5 and below. The only guys who should be are guys who were very significant, and not just anyone (I'm looking at you, Blackjacks).
Also, anyone have any idea why Vince hasn't opened up a small Hall of Fame in Connecticut? It wouldn't have to be very big, but a small something displaying all sorts of memorabilia would be a lot of fun to walk through.....chairs, mics, ring attire, belts, parts of the ring, photos, signed stuff.......but its probably because they don't have any of that stuff anymore.
Now, The 5 timers club......that was a Hall of Fame
