I bought the History Of The WWE Title DVD yesterday.... and it's a another reminder... how great wrestling "was"....
It's a joke how many times the title changed hands in the 00s.
But the DVD itself was a reminder that late 70s/early 80s blows away the 90s and 00s....
Backlund vs. Slaughter was f'n brutal for its day... and those guys poured out more heart and guts in 1 match at MSG than Cena and Carlito could in their whole careers..
Moving beyond the DVD itself...watching Sammartino, Snuka, Graham, Backlund, Valentine, Orndorf, Muracco, The Iron Sheik... those old MSG, Spectrum, Boston Gardens era matches in the early 80s... just awesome.. no pyrotechnics... no fireworks... no 20 minute in-ring BS promos by the "owner" or "GM"... i miss wrasslin, folks....

Well I grew up and started on 80's wrestling, so I may be biased, but it blows todays stuff away IMO. It's not the only era I like, I liked the late 90's nWo/Attitude era as well, but I don't think anything well top the 80's for me

Yeah, I'm very glad I have my NWA and WCCW tapes from the 80s. It really helps cleanse the palate after watching some of the stuff of today.

Everyone was a larger than life character in the 80s. I'll give it that. Also, almost everyone could work the mic. if they couldn't, they had managers that did.

I have very mixed feelings on this subject. What I like about the 80s was how the titles seemed so important and so unattainable. I also miss the wily managers, and I miss kayfabe.
However, I honestly feel that some of the more modern wrestlers (e.g. Angle, Michaels, the Undertaker) are among the best in-ring workers in the history of the business, and were as good if not better than many of the classic old school wrestlers.
