Read this on his OWW page
January 21, 2006--Live Event (RAW crew) in Bristol, Connecticut: The Coach Interviewed Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.. January 22, 2006--Live Event in Asheville, North Carolina: The Coach Interviewed Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat..
Did his ex-wife let him take his name out for the week? Or was this pre-losing his name in his divorce?

I'm not sure. When he's interviewed in the Pillman DVD, the caption underneath him also says "Ricky Steamboat". Maybe they just don't give a f*** about his ridiculous ex-wife.

His name has been mentioned in a RAW "this week in history" segment in the last couple of months as well. The wife thing either isn't true or was misunderstood by whoever reported it. A judge awarding someone's stage name to someone else makes absolutely no sense anyway.

If she does own the name then I assume it only comes into play if WWE ever wants to promote a Steamboat match or something similar.
In ROH, they used Steamboat's name but could only promote the thing with Punk as their "Final Confrontation." In the Punk/Joe shoot interview, Punk said something about the fact they couldn't call it a match and had to go with the final confrontation stuff.

I think it comes down to use. The WWE didn't have to pay anything since it's using it's own footage and isn't making any money off of it. It's like TNA mentioning a WWE wrestler, they can do it since they are using it in general conversation. Now if it was a Ricky Steamboat DVD they were selling, it would be different. But then again, I'm not a lawyer.

Pancakes and Syrup You have a point as well Ya, my mistake. It was supposed to be a picture of Judge Judy, the epitome of evil female judgedness. Would've been mildly amusing had I not f***ed it up so badly.

Im sorry but what is this topic all about.....what am i missing? There was a story that came out, maybe about a year ago or so, that said that the WWE couldn't use Ricky Steamboat's name due to the fact that his ex-wife had won royalties for the name in their divorce proceedings. I don't know if she had asked for an exorbitant amount for the name, but naturally, the WWE wouldn't pay someone that's not Ricky Steamboat to use Steamboat's name. Now whether that's true or not, I don't know. I don't even remember what the impetus for it was. All I know is that I could see someone doing that, or at the very least, making it legal for someone to not be able to use the copyrighted name or coming up with a ridiculous name so they could own it. ;D BTW, Steamboat's real name, Richard Blood, is twice as intimidating as Ricky Steamboat.
