Don't know if this has been brought up in the multitude of Lashley threads but I was just think of comparing him with Shelton Benjamin. Both black guys (geting the obvious out of the way), both young, amatuer backgrounds, both need work with mic skills but Shelton has been around longer, can wrestle great WWE style matches and at least has a deep voice.
Lashley has a girly voice, can't really wrestle WWE style but he does have big muscles and he's getting a huge, early push. That should cement the theory of Vince going totally homo (not there's anything wrong with that) and only pushing guys with muscles. I just hope a Bret Hart or HBK emerges in this sea of Lugers and Warriors for 07.

That is a good point, but I think in the minds of the WWE Benjamin doesn't have 'it' yet Lashley does.

Shelton hasn't been pushed? They've tried over and over again. Yes, we all absolutely love the guy (seemingly), but the crowd doesn't take notice of his stuff until he flies off of something. He gets really crappy crowd reactions, the strongest being during the whole Mama Benjamin thing...
I actually really liked the Mama/Shelton dynamic... Made Shelton actually have character (something he severely lacks)...

Vince has always had Big Man Boy Crushes. He thinks that because they're huge, they're "larger than life" and that's what a wrestling star should be. He got spoiled on Hogan and now insists on hiring these lummoxes and shoving them out on stage.

His matches with HBK were the last time either of them had a great match. They really haven't pushed him at all. They give him these high profile matches, like they're about to set him up for something and then they just drop him, like what they're doing right now, for about the 5th time.

I guess they were successful in the 60's, 70's & some in the 80's but looks at Warrior, they hate him now, Luger they joke about how bad he was nowadays on their TV show. Maybe in 10 years they'll be making jokes about guys like Lashley, Batista & this Rodimer guy.

No-one that big has drew much for years it makes no sense When does Vince make sense? He thought Katie Vick was hilarious. Vince, for all his protesting and movie making, is still stuck in the old days of wrestling in some aspects. He doesn't get that tastes may have evolved while he was in the weight room.

Vince doesn't make wrestlers, the wrestlers make themselves. He once bragged in an interview that he has a "Superstar Making Machine" in his office, insinuating that he can put a typical jabroni through his marketing department, and create the next Hulk Hogan. Not so.
Vince had no initial interest in Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, The Rock, etc until they made themselves. Vince DID however try to push Lex Luger, Ultimate Warrior, John Cena and Umaga on people despite them drawing ZERO heat.

It may be sad and "wrong", but the average fan will be more impressed by a non-charismatic hoss than by a non-charismatic "regular guy".
When Lashley was on SD! he was getting decent reactions, despite being green and boring. Shelton has been getting pops ONLY if he's performing stunning moves, otherwise, since Moma Benjamin's departure, he's been receiving ZERO reaction. (Not that he's been on TV that much though...)
Pro-wrestling is all about HOW you do things rather than about WHAT you do...
So, even though I like Benjamin style better and Lashley bores me to tears, I see why Vince is insisting with the Big Men.
If/when he finds the next Hogan/Goldberg, he hits the jackpot, and that's arguably easier and takes less time than slowly pushing an everage sized guy with decent charisma.

Sure, the gimmick may have been silly, but I think it fits the direction WWe is going in (Less adult than the attitude era, but still trying to accomodate some of this era into the cartoonish world of the WWE). I mean the same can really be said about Umaga, who is currently and perhaps because of Armando Alejandro Estrada deservedly one of the companies top heels.

The Rock - He brought the guy in a pushed him to the moon! In his first match, SS '96, he was the one that survived among such stars of the time as Jake Roberts, Marc Mero (w/Sable), Goldust, Jerry Lawler, HHH, and Crush. No more than 3 months later he won the IC Title. It wasn't until after the crowd turned and after Rock's hiatus that he was quickly turned heel. Throughout his WWF/E career, he was pushed constantly on TV, so that's a null argument. Austin - While he was saddled with the Ringmaster gimmick, no more than 6 months after his debut he was given the King of the Ring. John Cena - No heat? Have you heard the amount of boos he was getting last year? Not only that, the guy's a merchandise machine. Kids love the guy, and they're the ones buying the merchandise. He's far from being a failure. Ultimate Warrior - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! This guy was approaching Hogan levels of stardom at his peak. To say he didn't draw fans is like saying s*** doesn't draw in flies.

If it was Benjamin in place of Lashley with the big ECW title push and all...
I'd mark.

I say give the man a cool gimmick. He was in the military, turn him into a Nyquil addicted vet who has flashbacks. Imagine Maria dropping something and making a crashing noise and Lashley eats pavement yelling we're under attack, he walks up to Maria and whispers "you....scared...Lashley" then he takes a swig of Nyquil. Or Picture Lashley in the corner of the locker room muttering "I can;t get them out of my head" over and over then Eugene asks how hes doing and lashley snaps and beats the wax out of him...Then he takes a drink of nyquil. It could work.
