Nothing agaist the guy, but he has a cartoon gimmick, and this is the 2nd time he's been involed in a major media angle. First with K-Fed now with Trump. Nothing makes wrestling look more retarded then some savage helping K-Fed win a match or the thought of Umaga in the same ring as Donald Trump. I for one am not pleased. Umaga is fine and all, but I wish they would keep him away from angles that are gonna get a lot of press.

Not so. The samoan bulldozer = mainstream crossover appeal.

wrestling has never been serious business.
Seriously, think back to Undertaker appearring on REgis and cathy lee.
Goldust on COnan O'brian.
Hulkster and Easy E on the tonight show.
When has wrestling ever been taken seriously.
And since Umaga has been a featured player and Rated RKO is not involved at all with McMAhon at the moment, why not use the Samoan Bulldozer?

From a business sense I don't understand why the WWE would be pushing cartoon characters considering the increased popularity in real fighting sports like the UFC. The Trump vs. McMahon angle is already getting decent coverage and might garner some interest from people who don't know much about the WWE. However, I can bet a lot of people who tune in and see Umaga involved in this are going to change the channel and laugh off this fued as another low brow wrestling stunt.

Umaga was less embarrassing then Jeff Hardy's dance/spasms, with the IC belt flopping up and down. My mum pretty much said "That kid's retarded."

I still say that somehow, Eddie Fatu has made the gimmick work, with help from Estrada.

Yeah seriously, gimmicks like that dont need to be in wrestling no more. It makes it look really cheesy and dumb, its a long step back from realer characters like Austin, Rock, and HHH...

I thought the same thing at first...but in all honesty I actually think Umaga is being pulled off very well. I hated the gimmick at first because I thought it was ridiculous...but it's actually working very well.
Go figure.

It doesn't bother me. This is the kinda stuff wrestling is known for and to change it you need someone like Umaga to bring the fans in and have them watch something different. If a 100 people get WM do to Umaga/McMahon/Trump/?? and the show delivers like it usually does, then a good chunk of that 100 will be tuning into RAW to see more and that's only good in the long run.

The only problem is that the purpose of RAW (and Smackdown, etc) is to promote the PPV, not the other way around. Of course it is their biggest PPV, so that might attract more casual fans or other onlookers, but I doubt it. Thousands of people watch the Superbowl who will never watch another game during the regular season. The same goes with other sports, and I'm assuming "sports entertainment" is no different.

I was thinking the same thing-whereas the E had Hulk Hogan in the 80's-now they have UMAGA WTF? He can't even go on a talk show and hype this match-he's going to get owned anyway

I actually like Umaga he's good for a big guy, he's no less cartoony than "The Ultimate Warrior"
WWE has kind of gone back to the Kayfabe days
