I was wondering. So far the current WM23 card has the 2 main events(Cena/Michaels, Batista/Taker) the Trump v. McMahon angle, and the MITB. My question is what other titles will be contested? The IC title hasn't been contested in years and I don't believe the U.S. Title has ever been contested at a WM and it doesn't look very likely it will be this year. You can pretty much rule out the Cruiserweight Title. The RAW tag titles will either be facing each other in the a main event or in the MITB. The SD Tag titles might be in it and hopefully the Women's title won't be but if it is, who will be in it? Do we need to see another Mickie/Melina match? Has this company who supposedly has all of the top talent reduced itself to just the main titles?
Think back a bit to the days of yesteryear. Say, WM14. Look at the lineup:
WWF Light Heavyweight title-Taka v. Aguila
WWF European Title-HHH v. Owen
WWF Tag Title-New Age Outlaws v. Cactus Jack/Terry Funk
WWF Intercontinental Title-Rock v. Shamrock
WWF Heavyweight Title-Michaels v. Austin
Other matches were the Tag Team Battle Royal, Mixed Tag(Luna/TAFKAGD v. Mero/Sable), and Undertaker v. Kane. 8 total matches. 5 were title matches. And they were good matches. All of them. Now we're lucky to get 3 championship matches.

My point being that the US title has been contested at Mania. But that ought to tell you something. I watched that 'Mania and didn't remember that match. But thank you for correcting me on that.

The only titles that matter are the WWE championship and World Heavyweight Championship.
Who really cares about the IC, US, Cruiser, or other B/C list belts? The only times those belts ever had any credibility was when someone like a Bret Hart, HBK, or Steve Austin had them. Otherwise they are meaningless and I wouldn't mind if the E just got rid of them. The idea of a second tier belt is kind of ridiculous. The only belt that makes sense is the cruiser title because it represents a weight class, but then again there isn't weight classes in pro wrestling.

I wouldn't mind if the E just got rid of them. Yeah, cause that went over so well last time. No one out of the main event had anything to do.

Ahem HTM, and Mr.Perfect were good heel IC title holders.

That's a little ridiculous. I don't think being IC, Cruiser, or US champion has proven to mean anything. Did Jeff Hardy or Chris Benoit become more over by winning those belts? No. When a majority of guys are walking around with one title or another it weakens all the belts and makes them seem insignificant. Even worse is because there are so many belts there is no way the writers can even get all the champions on TV in active storylines. Just look at the US and Cruiser titles on SD. I think the E would be better off with no womens/cruiser title and just one second tier and tag belt.

Ah, that must have been during the 'I don't give a wax anymore' period of April 2002 - December 2003. Yep, RAW had the WHT and the Women's Title. Smackdown! had the WWE Title, the Crusierweight Title and the Tag Team Title. The was nothing for anyone out of the main event. It was (outside of Trips who is my favorite) an absolute disaster, IMO.

Again the brand split screws things up, there are way too many belts for anyone to care about anymore.
