I had a dream last night that Steve Austin returned to WWE, but instead of appearing on RAW, he came to ECW and took the role as leader of the originals, he came on and complained about the general crappiness of ECW (basically a worked shoot) and said he was here to take back ECW and claim it for the extremists off years gone by.
Does anyone think this may work, or actually happen? He's got the history with ECW, he's a huge name that wouldd draw in a lot of RAW/Smackdown/TNA viewers that dont watch ECW. I ccan see him in a role as the GM, but not called that, wherehe books more extreme matches in an attempt to take ECWbacck to its old ways. and if anyone can do it, I think Stone Cold has the, history, and ability to do so

ECW doesn't need saving. It is fine right now.

His ECW history has been greatly exaggerated. He only wrestled twice and lost both matches. As far as him being a GM type character, he did it on RAW a few years back and it was horrible.

Yeah really he wrestled what two macthes with mikey whipwreck and the sandman. Its cool to say steve got his start in ecw (he didnt) but he was about as important as al snow, a guy who was also in ecw for a breif period of time (longer than steve) and was thrust into the title scene before being sent to the wwf. Hell you might as well have Dusty Rhodes be gm of ecw he was about as important in shaping ecw as steve was.

I still feel that Steve Austin is identifiable enough with the brand, that fans will buy him as passionate about its current demise (such as having extreme rules as a stipulation, rather than just allowed in any match). If he came back and said he wants to put the "extreme" in extreme championship wrestling, then went about booking the more traditional ECW matches,as well as a few mat classics, such as benoit/malenko (i think?). then the casual WWE?ECW fan will have a character they loe, while the ECW fans offoldd(and there are quite a few off them) will have their original ECW back. I dont think ECW will ever be the same as it was when playe out in crappy bingo halls, but we can at least some semblance off what the original brand represented, rather than a third brand of WWE

Mick Foley would be a better pick for that role. Especially since he has a reason to forget the anti ECW stuff of last year, since Vince fired him last August.

Foley would make sense, well not really given his whoel anti ecw stuff last year and the fact that he realy hasnt done anyhting with ecw in 10 years but continuity aside Foley would be a good face gm or just a smpathetic ally of the old school ecw wrestlers.

Your theory wouldn't happen. It makes sense.

I still go by my idea from last year that WWE should have set-up ECW as a "developmental" brand in the mid-east, running shows in smaller venues to ensure sell-outs, and to purchase the exclusive rights from the New Alhambra Arena so they can run the majority of shows/tapings there. Then, if the idea caught fire, they could build up the promotion in a ECW Vs. WWE angle a year or so down the line to make ECW look like a legit promotion in the eyes of WWE fans. But alas, that would make too much sense...

That's not saving ECW, thats just a cheap way to try and spike ratings.

Mick foley would have been better for this role, but he's lost all credibilty with his constant returns and recent anti ecw feud. I wish he could go back, but ithink its too late
