In retrospect I do not think that Orton's face turn was that terrible. I feel he was very effective as a face and It would have totally worked out but Triple H made him look idiotic and weak and it was more that than anything else. It really wasn't bad in my opinion. In fact I see Orton turning face in the near future again and I feel it will work. I mean when he was a face he got face pops. It wasn't in the way Rock or Austin did but no one cheers for someone like that anymore. Plus WWE needs more faces and I feel he is more experienced and mature and will be able to make the face turn work.

He was a decent face, but when they started having Stacy come out with him, I thought that made him more soft and unlikeable.

I tend to agree with you, he should have held the title longer instead of basically getting killed in his first title defense against HHH.

He was a decent face, but when they started having Stacy come out with him, I thought that made him more soft and unlikeable. I totally agree, although it was the greatest thing when he RKO'd her out of nowhere! "Undertaker see what I'll do to my Girlfriend!, Imagine what I will do to you!" Really that was f***ing awesome! But back to Orton as a face. The man reason I'm thinking this is there is a lack of faces on all of the WWE shows. Plus They want Orton to be a main event star. The only way I see this happening is for him turning face. Plus I feel he is a better face than heel. Since they have to do ridiclous crap to keep heel as the Rey Mysterio feud shown. Plus he would be a very good alternative in my opinion to be world champion from Cena. Plus you Cannot depend on HHH and HBK forever. The only other possibility is Carlito but I feel is is very far away from even approaching the main event.

He was a face because he was kicked out of Triple H's club...
Thats all i'm gonna say.

I still don't think he was that great as a face, but the way the entire scenario was booked was more to blame. He was someone that was hated by fans for months, and now just because HHH beat him up we're supposed to like him? His title win (which I actually think came at a fine time) was great, but there was no way he should have lost it back to HHH that fast. Then HHH beating him over and over again for months didn't help matters. It was just like Booker T in 2003 again. HHH says he isn't on his level and that he can't hang with him? Looks like HHH was right!
I see Orton as just a perfect heel. He is so easy to hate. Edge would make a better face than Orton IMO, but I don't want either of them to turn myself.

Trips did bury him on promos, I remember one before WM21 where he said he's main eventing while Randy is "barely getting any scraps of Wrestlemania".

The man reason I'm thinking this is there is a lack of faces on all of the WWE shows. That's just a side effect of the problem. It looks as if they want to push ONE main event face, ONE "legendary" face against many heels. Ultimately the heels just run out of faces to face, and well, burn out.

Thats why there should be a few faces since it gets boring having one main event face. look back before the roster split. You had Austin, The Rock, Chris Jericho, Mankind, and Undertaker. All of them were faces and in my opinion it was far entertaining just watching Cena or Batista just destroy heels and ruin thy're credibity is just stupid.

This year, everyone's talkin the Undertaker while HHH is sitting at home just like Steven Richards, Shannon Moore and Rob Conway.

Randy Orton is too good at being a cocky asshole to be a face.

I liked him as a face but he grew stale after a few months. I prefer him as the cocky IC Champion heel. He was at his best during those days.

SeanOWNED To be fair to Triple H he would have main evented wrestlemania this year if he did not get hurt. But in a weird way I'm glad since HHH vs Cena? That's not cool!

Never shoulda happened. His whole character is built around being arrogant. What coulda been awesome is the moment evolution turned on him, instead of that going down IMO
He's up on Batista's shoulders, HHH is talking for awhile, Flair behind H, but rather than the whole thumbs down routine- Randy shoulda said something about, we don't need you anymore etc., Flair chop blocks HHH and they proceed to beat him so badly he has to take some time off.. they coulda then got another ppv or at least some more mileage outta a Benoit feud. You could still do the Batista storyline if necessary only with Orton taking the HHH role.

As said before, we were supposed to like Randy just because HHH kicked him out of Evolution? It might have worked better if Orton CHOSE to leave Evolution, deciding it was time to move on, instead of getting his feelings hurt by being kicked out. But we, the fans, were never given the impression that had Hunter not forcibly removed him, Randy ever would have left on his own. Hence, he couldn't be an effective face. Plus, at every stop and turn, everything HHH said about him not being able to hang was proven true by how he was booked.
Moving on, I enjoyed Randy Orton's face run immensely, since there weren't any white meat pretty boy faces for people to get behind, and he seemed like a good enough choice for the role. That said, he was booked like a tool. How are we supposed to like a guy who gets to judge a Diva lingerie contest in which the women taking off their clothes flirt like he's God's gift to everything? It makes the girls hate him for being a dog, and the guys hate him because he gets all the girls. Putting him with Stacy Keibler did him no favors either along those same lines.
But a Randy Orton face turn couldn't work now because it's pretty well-known how big of a douche he is (the Eddie stuff in kayfabe; his general, all-purpose douchery in real life). Unless it's a Steve Austin face turn where he doesn't care about the fans, puts them down, RKOs everything in sight and they cheer him anyway. But that'd be a fluke.

Orton's face turn had to happen. I was ready for it. I accepted it. I though after he beat Benoit, "Ok, here we go, a title match for WrestleMania set". My roomate says, "Ah, they'll beat him tonight." I said, "No way, this is their WrestleMania match. Never happen tonight". Sure as shit, it happened right away. Killing the slow burn, killing a WM match, killing Orton as a champion. The slow burn could have drug on for months....Triple and Evolution helping Orton win matches, many times when he didn't need help to win them, Evolution drifting closer to Orton as a leader, playing up Orton's young age vs. Triple's age (while not old, he was an old guard)........Yup, that fued could have been something. Instead it was the big suck-a-roo.

Instead it was the big suck-a-roo. Yeah plus I would have liked that much better than giving a huge push to Batista who is very very old. That screwed up royally. RKO could be the over guy in the WWE if they played it better and would have had epic contests against Guerrero, JBL, Angle, Triple H and Kennedy. Istead they gave Orton's push to Batista and now they have to develop someone new and fast. Great job WWE!
