I've watched many Royal Rumbles over the years and have noticed that the Royal Rumble goes one of either two ways:
1. Some Rumbles will get crowded, with 10-12 men in the ring. Then, all but 1-3 men get eliminated. And then, it will get crowded again. Examples: 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2004.
2. Some Rumbles will remain crowded with 10-12 or more men in the ring throughout the Rumble with a few eliminations every few minutes. Examples: 1991, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2006.

I've also noticed that rumbles tend to follow one of these two patterns. I definitely prefer type 1. It allows for more great moments where the focus is totally on a couple of wrestlers, and also allows for the chaos of the rumble.
Plus in type one you are guaranteed to get a whole bunch of guys eliminated at once, often by Kane. Which is always great.

Well, when you've got a storyline where #1 and #2 are engaged in mortal combat, you're going to have to go Type A, otherwise, they'd be lost in the mix.
But what about 1990, 1996, 2002, 2003, and 2005? Hmmmmmmm?

I don't have stats on this, but it seems entrant #3 is the first to be eliminated

Just once, ONCE, I'd mark to see all 30 make it to the ring before the first elimination. I know the probability of this is slim to none, but it would be different.

He dominated in 2001, I thought he was going to win it at one point.

the 1992 Rumble might have been the best Rumble ever. Everyone who was ANYONE in the company was in it, and it just seems like you were always seeing the biggest stars of all time (and Skinner) battling it out. Not to mention the greatness of EVERY SINGLE PERSON making a beeline to get their shot at Naitch.
WWE typically doesn't get more fun than the Royal Rumble. I'm hoping the DVD Anthology coming up doesn't get cut down too hard.

Did you watch Raw with the 30 man battle royal a few weeks ago? It would look quite similar to that. And about #3, it does seem to have become the designated jobber number. Usually 2 pretty decent people start it off and #3 hits and out comes Jobby McPutover. Like last year it was Simon Dean. Year before was Daniel Puder. Other classic #3's include: Headbanger Mosh(2000), Golga(1999), Boss Man(2002), Tom Brandi(1998), Fake Razor Ramon(1997), Eli Blu(1995), Papa Shango(1993).

My dream battle royal would be everyone that was ever entrant number 3 in a Royal Rumble. As someone wiser than me would say, "This isn't a Who's Who, it's a Who Cares!"
