In the 60 Minute Iron Man Match at Wrestlemania XII, the participants were 2 babyfaces, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Shawn had been a fresh babyface since the year before, Bret had been a good guy for almost a decade. So I suppose at that time during the matchup you must have been booing one or the other not for their wrestling ability, but just because you wanted one of those two to win. and AGAIN despite that both were good guys one or the other had to be the heel in the match because the backstage heat between HBK and Bret was starting to come out into the open in the match and fans were starting to realise that Hart and Michaels do not like each other. And after HBK won the belt, Bret left the ringside area Angry feeling HE should still be the WWF Champion, NOT Shawn and that was IMO the first seed planted in Bret's heel turn which would take a year to fully bloom. So at that point in time in kayfabe mode. Who was the "Bad Guy" in the Iron Man match at WM 12?

It ended with Hart being a heel towards the end since he started to whine and bitch when they said the match had to continue.
Kind of like Austin vs Rock when Austin turned heel on Rock by aligning himself with VKM and using a chair. (although not as drastic)

I think Bret was the Heel because the buildup was the "Boyhood Dream" Storyline and HBK was so over at the time and fans wanted that boyhood dream to come true at Wrestlemania 12. As for Bret Hart, he had been a top babyface for SO LONG and fans were getting bored with the goody two shoes image that Bret had since 1988, It was just a matter of time before the fans would start booing Bret as a face, but Bret turning heel after WM would have been too much of a swerve IMO. the Matchup was Face VS Face but it was Fresh Face (Shawn Michaels) VS Stale Face (Bret Hart). As for the absence of Bret, Storyline wise, Bret cannot stand Shawn Michaels and doesn't want to be in his presence as long as Shawn is WWF Champ. and at the next WM Bret became heel and reunited with Owen, Bulldog, Anvil, and Pillman in an attempt to bring down HBK, Austin, etc and I guess you know the rest.

They both were faces, but I think Shawn was more over than Bret as a face at this time, so I would say Hart was the heel!

HBK, since he spent so much time angrily shooting on the ref and camera guy.
