I'm lost. I consider myself a smark, considering the time I spend thinking about wrestling, but I'm a certified Orton mark, think John Cena's being held back by creative, and am of the opinion that Lashley should have been the WHC instead of Batista. Does that make me an anti-smark, a smark, or a guy with an opinion? You're a smark; you know the inner-workings of the business. You also have your own personal opinions, but every person, mark or smark, has them. That's all there is to it. And I agree with the original post; this whole movement against a perceived "hive mind" comes off as arrogant and obnoxious. There's no such thing as this "collective" that says wrestlings fans should all like the same thing; hell, look at just ROH fans, and see how many sub-divisions there are of people who like and dislike certain workers, styles, etc. within their own favorite company. Instead, we get people who have knee-jerk reactions to stuff that indy/non-WWE fans enjoy. CM Punk is more polished than the vast majority of other WWE developmental talent, due to his extensive indy and international work and training? Nah, he's just some overhyped "IWC-lovefest" item. See? It's just dumping rationality and objectivity to come across as some kind of anti-rebel, and it's obnoxious. In this example, you don't have to like Punk, but you can't deny that his background makes him more of a complete product than most other developmental talents. Nobody's trying to say "he's the best ever", but that's what the reactionaries kick back at immediately, it seems. Again, the perceived "hive mind."

Well......I........think............erm....... *panics* erm 6-3!!!!!!! BURN!! Like I really care that Liverpool's reserve side got dumped out of the cup. One more thing, how many times have Newcastle won a major trophy in the last 30 years? So... I'm American, was that like a Yankees/Mets burn?

Not a hockey fan, so that comparison does nothing for me. Im' not a sports fan at all, really, unless you count, ya know, WRESTLING, and I don't, becuase what we watch now is clearly not a sport, nor has it ever been, aside from carnival sideshows.

Anti-smarks tend to just berate smarks and IWC faves, such as calling CM Punk overrated and such. People with genuine opinions will make genuine statements, showing their opinions in a calm, orderly manner, and do the same for rebuttals.
I have nothing against John Cena. I loved his 5 Questions segment before it's cancellation, but I do feel he is being pushed as unstoppable, and frankly it wouldn't kill the WWE to give him an upper-midcard slot for awhile, and make people focus more on his matches. Did he work better as a heel? He certainly worked better when he had some attitude. But he has fans, there's no question about it.

my problem is people running around putting down a worker or even an entire company without giving exaples of why they suck, or not giving facts. alot of them give "facts", but there is a huge difference.

Having an unpopular opinion doesn't make you an anti-smark, even if you can't write a 100 page dissertation to back you up. I know most of what I like and dislike comes on gut feelings that I can't really eloquently explain in a way that someone else can't just put down or refuse to accept...
Though, specifically in my case, I can see why people would think of me as an anti-smark, because I worry too much about "Oh shit, they're all going to hate me and think I'm a retard, because I don't like what they do!", and instantly feel I have to defend myself. The problem is, I'm no good at defending myself.

are the people who disagree with all of their opinions just so they can feel all non-conformist. Boarders like that are the only ones who I feel have condescending enough posts to render them nothing but attention whores. I like CM Punk. I think John Cena is a hell of a guy, which forces you to begrudingly respect him; therefore I like him. I'm not the biggest ROH guy. I think the WWE product is sucking right now. I don't need some pretentious dickwad to start saying "OMG WWE SUXX!!!11!" whenever I want more Paul London. It is not proving a point, especially when the former is an eloquent post. But no matter what, there is always some Holier Than Thou anti-smark who thinks he is the crap. On the flip side, I can't stand people who can't stand the fact that there's a larger audience out there for the things they don't really like... hence I really hate the "if you like the product, you're sheep" mentality that some "fans" tend to have around here... it's either "wwe sucks more now than ever... ecw is dying just cancel it" and when someone brings up something like a big rating, or the latest amount of dough they just pulled in for the quarter, or the fact that ecw ain't getting cancelled, and aren't doing horrible cancel-worth ratings, it's cause the audience are "wwe brainwaished".

Man this is getting confusing. Now we have marks, smarks, anti-smarks, anti-marks, mark wahlbergs, mark jindraks... what next?
I think that Cena is definitely good (maybe even great) on the mic, but by no means the best there is right now. The problem I see around here is that some people are either absolutely in love with John Cena (i.e. He is the best and if you disagree you are a moron) or absolutely in hate with him (he sucks and if you like him, you must be warriorthug's latest incarnation). This kinda ruins it for people who are in the middle. If I express any sort of displeasure with him, some people jump up my ass because they assume I'm just trying to be a super smark. Even though that's not the case!

Even though that's not the case! I agree. Once I had a different opinion on CM Punk (even though I like him, he is a tad over-rated) and people thought I was going anti-smark on them. Then I had a similar opinion saying how I thought Lashley sucked, and people were accusing me and others of jumping on the band wagon of hating Lashley. I always disliked Lashley. I'm a middle ground person, and I hate when i get accused like that.

Both smarks and anti-smarks suck equally.
Being an anti-anti-anti-smark is what all the cool kids are.

The problem is, I'm no good at defending myself. no, i don't mean that there have to be a huge eplaination for your not liking a worker. but there are too many who just say "JOHN CENA = SUCK" and don't even have opinions to back up why they think he sucks, they're just following iwc trends. for example, i am a huge cm punk fan. now, if you say "i hate cm punk" i will naturally ask why. if you say "he sucks", then i instantly know you are just being a shit stirring ass. but if you say "i don't like cm punk because of x reason and y reason", i will think you are insane and possibly blind, but i will at least have an actual opinion to respect.
