I'm talking about guys like Stevie Richards, Chris Jericho, Golddust etc. Jericho was funny as hell in WCW,but was a mid carder until he came to the E and gradually stopped being so funny, Stevie along with so many others probably won't go anywhere this far into their career. The World Champion should be taken seriously, and while the Rock was often times funny, I think of him more as a charismatic guy than a funny guy like Richards, so is it possible?

When Lashley talks, I think its funny, does this count?
Seriuosly, doesnt seem the guys with a comedy act get a lot of main event respect. Dude love got a main event push but maybe only because of the fact he was Mick Foley.

Kinda sucks that people think that once a funny guy wins the big title, the company's gonna be a big joke and it won't be taken seriously no matter how over they are... I never knew I'd see Stevie Richards and The World Champion in the same sentence.

Not over the long term. Big Show had a spurt at it, so did Jericho, and Rock doesn't count.
Unfourtunately, Colt Cabana could never be a main eventer though in the E....if he goes.

I think Cabana could be a main eventer in the WWE if he ever got signed. He's good on the mic, he can go in the ring, and his style is just different so I think Colt could main event.

People seem to forget Stevie Richards WAS somewhat of a main eventer in ECW. He wasn't around late enough into ECW's life to see much PPV action (In fact I dont know if he EVER appeared on a PPV besides Barely Legal) but he was constantly towards the main events of shows from 1995-1997, and co-main evented Barely Legal with Sandman and Terry Funk and had a strong amount of the crowd wanting him to win the match to face Raven.
With that said....its hard, unless the 'comedy' guy changes his gimmick a bit. HHH and HBK were "comedic" in 1997-1998, but still on top. Dude Love had his main event time, etc.

Delirious has main-evented against Bryan Danielson in RoH this past year & it seemed as though he was a legitimate threat to the title. If the person is talented enough, then they can do comedy in addition to having good matches. Eugene's gimmick got old fast, so he can't. Colt Cabana, maybe.
However, maybe it's got something to do with RoH being a smaller promotion. Godz cited that Stevie Richards was always near the top in ECW; but ECW isn't WWE, y'know?

Can he? Of course he can!
But in the WWE?...Not in this year. And, unless he aslo happens to be big, muscular and willing to kiss some ass, not on the next either;
(Razor Ramon HG main evented HUSTLEMania. And HUSTLE is preeeetty big, not as big as WWE but it´s something. Oh, and they grew fast BECAUSE of Razor Ramon HG!)

Yeah, but HUSTLE is small-scale in comparison to WWE; and the league is MEANT to be ludicrous (his Hustlemania opponent's finisher was the finger-gun FFS), so it's only logical that Razor Ramon HG- a comedy character- would be on top.
You do occasionally get funny guys atop the WWE. I thought the Kurt Angle who was WWE champ at the start of 2001 preferable to the Angle who was WWE Champ at the start of 2003, for example. JBL only STARTED being hilarious when he was WWE Champion (his Undertaker feud, notably): before that it was all racism and bragging.
That said, I think the fans generally find it hard to buy goofy characters in a credible main-event position for the reason that, well, they're goofy, and everyone would know that, say, Boogeyman wouldn't win the WWE Title. As an example, Edge got over initially as the Ted to Christian's Bill, but neither Edge nor Christian had sustained main-event pushes until they dumped that gimmick for good.

Anyone can be world champion, given proper booking.
For a comedic guy, I think it takes being able to continue playing the comedic character you're known for, but being able to move past the gimmick.

I'd say King Booker is a wacky comedic heel (with a nasty side to him, of course), and the guy was World Heavyweight Champion for a pretty nice-length reign.

Kurt Angle was a bit of a dorky 'joke' type character at one point during his career (as a main eventer)
