So very true. This should have been one of the biggest matches of all time - sadly, it became another throwaway Raw main event. No wonder the 2001/2002 period soured so many fans on wrestling.

Yeah.....I mean, it means little on the surface, but just think about it......THAT was the Monday Night War in a nutshell right there, with both sides represented.....the NWO vs. WWF ATTITUDE (at least, on the wrestling side....all that was missing was HHH or HBK repping DX on the WWE side).....almost gives you chills down your spine a bit when you watch those intros.
At least it did me.

At least it did me. I think the main problem was that it didn't excite people as much as it should have. You are correct - that realistically should have been the apex of the "invasion", albeit missing guys like HHH, Nash, Hall, Hogan, Goldberg etc. Imagine if WWE had of actually shelled out that extra 5-10 million dollars it would have cost to buy out the main WCW contracts. I think they could have easily made their money back (and the rest) within a year.

I've always said that the main event at WrestleMania X8 SHOULD have been Austin, The Rock, and HHH vs. the nWo.

No offense to a lot of guys who did come over with the purchase of WCW, but they didn't really matter. The guys who should have been there, Hogan, Goldberg, Sting, Steiner. Bisch and a few others were worth whatever price. Vince could have made more money than he's ever dreamed of if he had the right guys. Instead, he got a handful of beans and tried to hotshot everything to make it work.
