You could have anyone drawing money in this business if Vince McMahon wanted somebody to.
For example, Cena's push could have been applied to any number of wrestlers out there and they would sell the same amount merchandise.

You could have anyone drawing money in this business if Vince McMahon wanted somebody to. For example, Cena's push could have been applied to any number of wrestlers out there and they would sell the same amount merchandise. If Malenko got the Cena push, I can guarantee you that would be nowhere as successful. Perhaps if it were a different era, but now? No. For that push to work you have to have something aside from putting on a good match that stands out, and a lot of critically acclaimed wrestlers don't. Smark appeal is 50% of the battle. As it was cited before in this thread, the crowd is looking for their favorites to win, and while you might see a good match, the majority sees their favorite guy struggling to pull off the win, which is why a wrestler who is going to get a demi-god push needs something that isn't just going to make him appeal to wrestling fans that don't play along with the script.
