So I just got this game last night, after a friend of mine told me how good it was. I got it for $10 at EB Games, so even if it sucked, no big deal.
Anyway, I really like it. The roster is amazing, the graphics are really good, and the sheer amount of arenas and all the detailing that went into them puts the SmackDown! games to shame. Hell, they even had the Moscow arena from Rocky IV in it for shits and giggles.
But from both IGN and gamespot the game gets bad reviews. The gameplay is where it's lacking, and is definitely a step or two backwards from the SmackDown! games. It's definitely at a slower pace, which fits the era of wrestlers the game has.
And the career mode does suck terribly. No excuses whatsoever for that piece of crapty crap.
HOWEVER, aside from those two points, I'm enjoying the game. For good or ill, it's probably the closest we'll ever come to a WWE-made legends game that a lot of us here wish for.
Now what about the rest of you peeps? Opinions?

I absolutely loathe this game.
The roster is good, but on the other hand the gameplay is so incredibly bad and the whole game is such a glitch-ridden piece of crap that I'd rather play Atsushi Onita FMW than ever touch this garbage again. Well, almost.

Are you talking about Showdown: Legends of Wrestling?
I like the game. I like the gameplay in the LoW series, but I did hate all the bugs the game had in it. The lack of the career mode and instead having the Legends mode was bad, too. other than that, I enjoyed it.

When I rented it, I loved the roster, and the commitment to the history with the arenas and whatnot, and the graphics were good, but the gameplay was miserable.

The moveset what I hated even more. So many of the wrestlers movesets were nothing close to what they were in real life. Which is a big thing for me is realizm. I mean if I'm playing Roddy Piper in a game I expect to have a moveset basic on what he does in the ring in real life. But when I play him in this series he does Pedgrees or Stunners. Which he never did once in his career. Which bugs me that he doing moves he never does. WWE games at less have the wrestles be like the wrestler we watch on TV. Sure there are a couple moves that the legends do that are not right but mostly they are. Always hated the top rope set of on Bret Hart. Moonsults and HBK like elbows. When his real elbow is there.

I remember owning and liking LoW II. Never owned Showdown, but I played it for two minutes at Best Buy one time and got frustrated with it.

God the gameplay sucked in that game, and that like decides 80% if the game is good or not, so that game really sucks. The only thing I really liked that was different, was how weapons dropped more realistic. Like if you dropped a ladder near the ropes it would rest against them for a minute, and you could slide a chair under the ropes.
Smackdown 5 > No Mercy > Rest of Wrestling games that arent worth a mention...

The three things that stand out in my mind about this game was how glitchy it was, how said glitchiness made it almost impossible to create a proper CAW, and how the camera pulled out to a faraway view whenever there was more than 2 wrestlers in the game.
It's one of those games that you buy more for the extras than the actual wrestling.

EDIT: Dammit, my review of Onita FMW has suddenly disappeared into the depths of Wrestlecrap archives.

This game's roster is second to none (well maybe WCW/nWo Revenge). Yes it was a little glitchy. Yes the career mode was crap. Yes the CAW is one of the worst of all time. But it's still cool to get on there and set up matches between guys that you can only hope 3 or 4 of will show up on a WWE game.

You got it for 10 bucks. Which is weird because I went to Gamestop which is the same company and they had the second one for the same price. 3 had the best roster. But they all have about the same game play. 3 had the better looking arena. The first two didn't have as bad of a glitchfest. But for 10 bucks it not that bad for what it is.

I'm thinking of picking this up if I can find it cheap just because of the roster. I mean, look at everyone that's in this:
* Abdullah The Butcher * André the Giant * Andy Kaufman * Road Warrior Animal * Bam Bam Bigelow * Baron Von Raschke * Big John Studd * "Superstar" Billy Graham * Bob Backlund * Bobby "The Brain" Heenan * Bret "The Hitman" Hart * British Bulldog * Bruno Sammartino * "Cowboy" Bob Orton * Brian Knobbs * "The Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman * Captain Lou Albano * "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig * "Diamond" Dallas Page * "The Rock" Don Muraco * Dory Funk, Jr. * "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes * Dynamite Kid * "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert * Eddie Guerrero * Fritz Von Erich * George "The Animal" Steele * Grand Wizard * Greg "The Hammer" Valentine * "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan * "The King" Harley Race * Hulk Hogan * Iron Sheik * Ivan Koloff * Ivan Putski * Jake "The Snake" Roberts * Jerry "The King" Lawler * Jerry Sags * "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart * Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka * Kerry Von Erich * Kevin Von Erich * Killer Kowalski * King Kong Bundy * Koko B. Ware * Mil Máscaras * Mr. Fuji * Nikita Koloff * Nikolai Volkoff * One Man Gang * "The Rocket" Owen Hart * "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff * "The Macho Man" Randy Savage * "The Model" Rick Martel * "Ravishing" Rick Rude * Rick Steiner * Ricky Morton * Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat * Road Warrior Hawk * Robert Gibson * Rocky Johnson * "Rowdy" Roddy Piper * Sabu * "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner * The Sheik * Sid Vicious * "Dr. Death" Steve Williams * Sting * "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase * Terry Funk * Tito Santana * "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas * Ultimate Warrior
Plus, commentary by Heenan, Schiavone, and Zbyszko. Also, legendary arenas like Madison Square Garden, the Pontiac Silverdome, The Omni, and the Cow Palace.

Game Stop or EB games has it on there site for 12.99 (Same company). I've looked at a couple of there strore in here and haven't found it. If I do see it I'm picking it up. I rented it when it came out and had fun with it. The roster is great and the arena are too.
I have a question. I've looked everywhere and I can't find a good CAW site for these games. 2 and 3 most of all. I found one but no pics of the CAW. I hate that because I want to see if they are woth the time of making them or not.
Anybody know a good CAW for this and the second game.

No women on this one I see.. ..guess they aren't legends. Hope they fixed that "invisible wrestler" thing that was actually entertaining.
