He's probably ridiculously oversold a DDT as well. My theory is, when he gets hit with one, he pops up, cartwheels, then falls flat on his face. i think ure thinking of HBK... and thats only against Hogan's AMAZING STRENGTH Or the Rock with the Stunner. Seriously, he'd like do a roll into a handstand, fall on his face, then roll and flop around all over again.

RVD did oversell the ddt on more than one ocassion. Somebody would hit him with the ddt and he would basically do a head stand then flop over on his back.

Any idea when this came about? I remember seeing it the first time with the Headshrinkers and thought it was the coolest thing possible. One of THE killer moves and it didn't hurt because their "heads were so hard" - and in the same match they then got pinned after a Frankensteiner (Wrestlemania IX - not the worst thing to happen that night, I imagine..) I know there's been a couple of people to no-sell the DDT that way, but where did it come from? And can anyone name anyone else who pulled it off? Undertaker no-sold 2 Jake Roberts DDT's at one point when they feuded. That was at WrestleMania 8.

1) Undertaker didn't entirely no-sell Jake's DDTs. He laid down for over 15 seconds before going into his "Sit up, evil glare, kick your ass, win" routine. That was about as close to selling as Undertaker would go back then.
2) RVD oversells everything. The guy falls to the mat and bounces twice while screaming in agony during instructions.

Taker actually did kind of sell Jake's DDT. He stayed down for a few seconds, and then Jake was distracted by Bearer, allowing Taker to sit-up.

The DDT was particularly protected.

The DDT was particularly protected. Good times... Kicking out of ANY finisher was allowed to few selected Stars, in few selected occasions (ie. WrestleMania and MAYBE Summerslam) Then it became more and more usual, finally leading to the current situation, where to get a pinfall you need at least a cheap shot and possibly two signature moves/finishers.

Which help start the downward spiral in match quality. I think the earliest it started was Rock/Austin at Mania 15. Both guys using their finishers two times in the match made it epic. But from that moment on everyone started kicking out at two and three quarters of the count, even the guys on Heat. Using that main event mentality for almost every year afterwards hurt the match quality IMHO. Now when someone hits a finisher, I think "oh he will only get 2 and a half, then somebody will interfere and enable the other guy to win.

Umaga might just have the best no sell of it ever. The dude bounces off of his head, onto his feet, unphased.
PLEASE, a gif of it.
