I'd go with the "appreciation thread" moniker, but I'd actually like both sides of the coin for people's thoughts on this one. Recently while watching some old WWF (well, old as in a few years ago) it really hit me how amazing the Two Man Power Trip was. For those who weren't watching in 2001, it was the heel tandem of Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ignoring the obvious glaring omissions of logic in the storyline (HHH has Austin run over with a car ... then they team up later?) the duo was exactly what a brilliant heel duo should have been in my opinion. They weren't the heels who pretend and talk like they can win clean, then cheat and try to play it off. They flew out to the ring with chairs, obliterated everyone in their path, and went on to the next targets.I loved the idea of putting all the belts on them at Backlash 2001, as it gave them the legitimacy they needed to be able to back up all their talk. They were arguably the two best in the company at the time, so it made sense that they could win all the gold. As seen here.Plus it makes for a nice visual ;D When Rated RKO formed, I really had hopes that they would be the next TMPT. I'm not usually one to call for rehashes of gimmicks, but I thought it would have worked great. The chair attacks, Edge as WWE Champion with Orton as Intercontinental Champion, they already had the tag straps, and they could have really been the duo in storyline to take out DX. They would have had plenty of feuds to fall back on had that come to pass as well. John Cena, DX, Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair.... But alas, it wasn't to be. They lost to Ric Flair and Roddy Piper on one Raw I can remember and then even after HHH was gone had Shawn Michaels kicking their asses on a near (though not always) weekly basis. All in all though, this duo of Hunter and Austin is an all time favorite of mine. So just thought I'd get some other crapper's thoughts on the mini-stable, positive or negative.

The last pay-per-view I watched in that era was WrestleMania X7, meaning I just missed the Two Man Power Trip...which annoys me. I think the idea of putting every belt on a stable (or, in this case, a tag team) with the appropriate build-up is a genius move.

Agreed, I thought it was a great team (despite obvious continuity errors.) I liked how they completely took over the WWF.
I'd like to see this done again. As you said, they had a chance with Rated RKO, but nothing came of that. Maybe they could do it with John Cena and Randy Orton? That might work.

Every time Cena has a large feud with a legitimate adversary (Edge, Orton), I wonder what it would be like if he were to re-create the Power Trip with that person. I see it happening with Edge, something like late 2008?

I cannot say enough good things about this tag-team. Their attitude. The way they literally left the Rock lying in a pool of his own blood. The way they beat up on Lita (yes, it's bad to hit a woman, but they didn't pull the old "just shove her" or "oops, we hit you by mistake" thing, they actually went after her). The way they wielded those chairs, and the fact that McMahon looked at them as his own creation.
That would have been a great set-up to both of them suddenly turning on Vince and somehow making Vince the FACE in that feud. They could have made it work, and it was a thing of beauty.
Damn, Triple H's quad...damn it all!!

This is during my favorite time in Austin's career.
Two man power trip is my favorite tag team of all time. They were great.
However, if it wasn't for Trips quad tear..I doubt Austin would have become what he did that summer/fall. He was just great in that role.

I think HHH's quad tore due to the awesomeness of it all. Whoever was the brainchild of this team should get a get out of jail free card.

That team spawned one of my all time favorite SCSA quotes of all times, and if any one has a video of it, I will forever be grateful for a link.
Undertaker's wife had just been "run over" (we were led to believe), and when Taker confronted Austin about it (or maybe it was Regal confronting Austin), Austin looked blankly in the person's eyes and asked "What? She dead?"
Why that is so funny? All in the delivery my friends ;D

I was intensely intrigued until the veterans got Vince to ditch the Hardy's in favor of UT/Kane.

I hated Rock and The Hardys then so I loved it when they beat their asses But that was a genius team that I don't think anyone saw coming. The match where they lost the belts to Benoit/Jericho is one of my favorite matches of all time, just some great stuff. Probably the last time I was really interested in Triple H

I enjoyed that a lot, and I would love to see it rehashed with Cena, though that's not very likely unless the WWE can build a babyface that can get his level of reaction in his absence.

I was there, live, when the team was formed.
This guy behind me saw Hunter coming down to the ring, seemingly to help The Rock.
"He's got to do something, he's gotta!"
Hunter then hit Rock and the place went BALLISTIC.
I don't think a single person in that ring didn't get hit with cans.

Great team, loved their feud with Taker and Kane, and then with Jericho and Benoit while it lasted

I loved Lita and The Hardys at that time..so when HHH & Austin completely destroyed them all with chairs I didn't know what to think..I was disgusted..yet..I loved it.
Its weird to think this but striking a woman in WWE was pretty commonplace at the time..however, they took it a step further and had Hunter obliterate Lita with a chair. It really put HHH over as the biggest asshole in the history of the company.
The only thing better than the Hardyz/Lita beatdown was Austin turning on JR on Smackdown shortly after..with Vince appearing at the top of the ramp..
"What are you doing Steve? That's your best friend and look what you're doing to him?....you're taking it easy..C'MON STEVE! OPEN EM UP!!!"
It was crazy..I don't remember witnessing such a violent heel turn. WWE's mentality at the time must have been along the lines
"Gee..how can we turn this guy heel..EVERYONE LOVES HIM..I know..lets go overboard and make him the most hatable (I'm aware thats not a word) guy in the company's history. Lets have him loose his sanity and annihilate everyone in his path"
