The problem -- and I say this as a Foley fan -- is that his appearances are no longer surprising or unpredictable. He through his own admission pops up in WWE whenever he has a new book to shill or some sort of appearance to plug. When Foley comes out the curtain, many of the longer fans from the Attitude era roll their eyes and say "Yep here's Mick... he must have a new book to plug or something". Meanwhile the newer fans who are less familiar with his accomplishments are like "Hey, it's that guy again".
His appearances just aren't special anymore, because we've become accustomed to them. Now if he disappeared from WWE for 3-5 years and then made a surprise appearance on Raw to save a babyface, the ovation would be thunderous.

When Mick was first gone for a while and came back, it was cool the first couple times, but he's always occasionally popping up. I still like him and appreciate the dude, but I think he just needs to stay gone for a couple of years.

WWE Idol killed him a bit too..."I'll do anything for money"
Honestly, I've lost respect for him after his last book, he sounds like a bitch now.

I wanted either JBL or Foley to ref the match, only because I can['t stand Steve Austin anymore. All he does is walk in, stun people, pour beer in his eyes and pose for ten minutes, then leave. It's old as hell.

To me, Foley is Foley. I'm always happy to see him on tv or in a match... sure his novelty may have worn out, but that's simply because he hasn't been used right.
I don't doubt that WWE could easily come up with something to get him back in the fans' eyes as someone credible.

If he were a full-time worker than it could be something WWE could concentrate their efforts towards. However, Foley is just there, nothing exciting about him or anything and I don't think it's WWE's fault entirely.

What does he have to bring to the table anymore? Everytime he comes back it's only for a cheap pop for the home crowd or to put over a heel.
Austin, on the other hand, is over for life. No question about it.

I hope Mick takes it as a warning. Unlike Hogan Or even The Rock, he has failed to protect his character nor the aura surrounding it. As a big Foley mark it was saddening but predictable he eventually got almost no pop at all. Bingo. Mick walks in, shills a book, jobs convincingly to anyone with a pulse, and then leaves again. His character and his appearances worthless. Whereas guys like Hogan, Rock, Austin, etc, will always get pops because they were smart enough to protect their names. I know most here like to genuflect in front of Foley for "doing what's right for the business" and killing himself for a pop, but that ultimately destroyed his career.

I don't think it's the ECW storyline, or the feud with Flair...
After you show up on TV every six months, and most of the time for no good reason [promoting your book isn't a good reason], the crowd tend to grow tired of scheduled "surprise" appearences.
WWE should stop calling back semi-retired Superstars in the vain hope of recapturing some fans. And the Guest Referee is the most overused and pointless gimmick ever IMO, especially if the Referee isn't an active Superstar who'll somehow get involved in a feud following the match.
What was Austin's purpose in the Taker-Batista match? Nick Patrick would have done the same...

That was truly sad last night. But he's got no-one to blame but himself. I'm glad I was there for his final big pop at WMXX because it all went downhill after that.

I love Foley, but, being immobile, fat, and seemingly hasn't won in years, isn't going to get him over anytime soon. The heel turn didn't help. What bothered me was him and Funk used the exact same dialogue on tv, that foley used in his book. Then him jobbing to Flair 2 straight was what burried him. That was a WTF moment.

He got a nice pop and "Foley" chant on Raw. Us Philadelphians will always love us some Foley.

I prefered Foley in the court angle. although his lack of cheers might be because he hasn't been on PPV for a long time, where as Austin and Hogan have, Mick tends to appear and disappear at will anymore.
