I don't know if it was an overall bad crowd at Cyber Sunday or not, but they really weren't buying the ECW match were they?
Maybe it was because The Miz was picked, maybe the majority of fans don't watch ECW, but it was actually painful to watch.
When CM Punk came out he was standing holding the title in the middle of the ring, and the entire arena behind him seemed to be sitting on their hands waiting on something else.
There was a few boring chants throughout, but the killer moment was the Y2J chants. When the crowd start cheering for a wrestler who (technically) hasn't been in the company for YEARS during a WORLD TITLE MATCH, that's a sign that no-one gives a crap about the title, the champ or the opponent.
Not good.

It was overall bad as far as I'm concerned. When UNDERTAKER doesn't get a decent pop, there's something up.

Yeah they really need to learn how to make their belts and champions look as good as possible. Maybe CM Punk should do a series of squash matches against everyone and then face the next champion in a Time Limit draw two or three times then at a PPV have them do a no time limit match and Punk pass the belt on.

Maybe it's the overall talent that they had in the match. CM Punk - fine, but really, who's he facing?
A guy who used to be in a tag team. A reality show joke that JBL buried every single week as the most worthless guy on the roster. A fat jobber who used to dry-rape guys as a finishing move.
Hardly WORLD TITLE material is it?

NObody outside of the IWC gives a crap about Punk, Miz is even worse and the E in ECW is now irrelevant, what do you/they expect?

Well in fairness, they no longer refer to the ECW belt as a World Title. It is known simply as the ECW championship, as I think they stopped calling it a world title a few months ago. In other words, I think even WWE is finally acknowledging that ECW is below Raw or Smackdown in terms of importance. I like ECW, but realistically it is not a top-tier brand and it never has been.

I'm not surprised.
For a start, the choices for the voting were awful. All three were three wrestlers that the fans just flat-out don't care about. Then again, is there anyone people care about in ECW? The only person is probably CM Punk, and maybe Tommy Dreamer or Balls Mahoney. When I'm watching the show, I hardly ever hear a reaction (unless it's piped-in, like usual). It also doesn't help that The Miz wasn't promoted to be a contender to the title. He's been in a feud with Balls and not even near CM Punk.
I can understand that WWE wants people to care about their characters, but as you mentioned, it comes to something when the crowd is chanting for someone who hasn't been in the company since 2005. It's interesting, because Jericho had a character and a personality - which is what most of the wrestlers today are really lacking.

They seemed to get into the match as it went along. They popped pretty big for Punk winning or were all the people standing up cheering and clapping CGI?
Plus, the crowd kinda sucked the entire night anyway.

That's not entirely true about Punk as little kids are seen wearing his merch and plenty of signs for him each week and I doubt they are all internet fans who just watched his ROH stuff.

If it was just the IWC who liked him then I supposed Survivor Series 2006 all those people were IWC Smarks that were chanting eh? Or how about anytime a loud "CM PUNK!" chant gets started it just the ICW smarks eh? No, little kids like him and so do teenage girls. He honestly should be the face of WWE. He's a great role model for kids by telling them to abstain from all of the things he does.

The last time I saw Undertaker get a pop like that it was 1991, it was amazing.
Undertaker is likely the most over guy they have, on any of the rosters. He literally got Conway'd.

I think once Punk starts regularly appearing on Smackdown more people will take to him more.

It was probably just a tough crowd. Punk gets pops other places, and obviously Undertaker does.

Punk only over in the IWC? Gimme a break, every scifi show all u see is women and kids wearing his merchandise.Hes over most of the time, i mean the guy has gotten a CM Punk chant in like 75% of his matches.

Far from the first time Punk and ECW as a whole has gotten a mediocre reaction on PPV. When your show does a 1.2 what do you expect? I guarantee if you polled that crowd about 75% of them don't even tune in to see ECW. It's odd with Punk though, because people can sit and be relatively quiet throughout his entire matches, but when he gets the guy up for the GTS he always gets a reaction. People know who he is, and what he does, but I don't think it's enough to make them care.
I agree with a previous poster. Once Punk, Burke, and that crew are off ECW and on Smackdown and Raw their stars and reactions will grow immensely. To be honest, Burke got more of a reaction on his short stint on Smackdown then he does a lot of the time in ECW.

Punk is not just over with the IWC. I was at a Smackdown/ECW taping a few weeks ago and tons of people had CM Punk shirts and signs.

Wasn't Elijah Burke originally supposed to be a candidate instead of The Miz? It would've made more sense.

The match did suck and it was mostly Punks fault. He blew a few spots. He didn't let Miz sell the move before he jumped up on the top rope and did his little move, damn near broke his own shoulder and crushed Miz. Punk was going way too fast, he wanted to make sure that he got in all his high spots. If he would have slowed down a bit it could have been a better match. Miz was ok. You could see him talk WAY too much but at least it wasn't the same Big Daddy V or Morrison match.

You're all looking way to into this.
The fans at the arena were just pissed the Miz won.
However, obviously people voted the Miz simply because we've already seen Big Daddy V and John Morrison face CM Punk. To me, it was a loud and clear message to the WWE that the fans just want something different.
Their were no CM Punk chants because their was no need to. You cheer for your wrestler in a competitive match to show support. Their was no need to "help" CM Punk last night with cheers and chants. Everyone knew he was going to beat the Miz. He wasn't facing the monster, Big Daddy V and he wasn't facing the former champ, Morrison...he was just facing the Miz.
And their was a very audible Morrison chant during the ECW match. Obviously, people in ECW are over.

Actually just watched it back and in the first minute theres a punk chant.
...edit watching it fully through now and the crowd hasn't crapped on it at all - they're not pumped up by they're somewhat vocal.
Over-reaction much.
